You guys think conditions are bad around Tahoe? Don't even get me started...

Seems like that rain event last week was pervasive throughout practically the whole western US. We found rain crust to over 9,000 feet, and serious signs of flash flooding including snowpack incisions and big sediment dumps on ice. Nasty. Corn was good though thanks to daytime temps feeling like July. This was the Steens.

The recent influx of users has lead to many clueless people and I would rather just stop my ride and let them by then have to deal with it. That said, my routine this summer was riding directional trails, pedaling from the trailhead at 6am. So I think the max amount of people I saw on any one ride was like 4 or 5.

^^^ive bern yielding always on bi directional multi use trails since summer cause I don’t want to get hit.

Most our trails are directional by convention. Meaning there is not a printed list of rules or any signs. Some would be horrible to bike up. Others just not fun in sections. On all those, if you are climbing, you would yield to downhillers for the above posted reasons. Not sure why anyone would climb any of the ones I’m thinking of, unless they made a wrong turn and were re tracing their route. There are a few uphill routes and UCON is for sure bi-directional but is the main uphill route from 9 for most. The two other routes are a bit more than many on big travel bikes want to pedal.

The Wilder side is all bi-directional in the park. The trails there are all easy climbs and on those, uphill era for sure have the right of way based on signage. Not that an uphill can’t yield, but it is their choice.

can't wait for the crowds to jam the 2" of snow on iceblock. I don't think there's anything left up there.... graph of KW winds overnight last night. consistently gusted ~190mph for like 4 hours. I know last year recorded that questionable 209mph wind spike, but *this* was sustained chaos.

hell I wouldn't be surprised if even the ice blew away

^^^^ yeah the Kwood wind sensor is questionable......sustained winds at speeds higher then peak gusts atop squaw and alpine
I heard the Cali side of heave was having power issues.....nv side just wind fuckery..... same as kwoods reason for shutting down today

What are those orange things dangling from your arms in that vid j?

There ice awls for self rescue in case I break though the ice, wild ice skaters usually have em. Carry a 22cm ice screw also, can drill and check the thickness of the ice quickly

Yeah, it was trippy. Maybe some leftover burner supplies mixed in?

Also, jeebus it's icy on the trails.

Quite impressed with the Gnar the snowplayas are tolerating and seeking out. Way more hardcore than the local kids. More type 2 and 3 fun for sure. Bushwhacking, dirt, pine cones, ice, and pleanty of melty dicks. Why so many dicks all over the place?

Kwood is in a wind tunnel from east flow so it’s possible..... but I’m still doubtful after that 200+ mph reading last year
