Has 2021 been exceptionally windy? I don't have any empirical data, but it seems like every time I go out or every time we get snow, it's followed by strong northern and eastern winds. I don't remember it being so bad in previous years.

The east wind events have been more significant this year for sure. They moved a lot of snow and shaped snow plumes in unique locations. Don't know how statistically different this year was and may just be a feature of the pattern we had most of the winter.

Thanks for sharing the details/pics from "repeat offender" Gimpy. Saw that on our drive up Sunday.
AKB, I totally agree with you - especially after seeing Shasta, which in Feb had almost no snow up high due to wind scouring. Never seen it like that mid winter before. Same w the east side.

    Some pics from yesterday:
Every aspect we skiied was wind affected, but dry snow, even Southerly. Mostly windbuff, with the occasional couple inches on top of recent wind deposits. (on our exit S sides had turned wet/heavy)

Ya that #$&*% East wind shows up this year everytime we are set up for good shady conditions. It seems it used to only be 2-3 times a year..... now it’s like clockwork. Went to a zone today where the westerly had reset all of yesterday’s tracks.......but tomorrow it’ll get thwacked

    Rad tour Xmas poo!+++

THE OFFICIAL 20/21 TAHOE SKI & SNOWBOARD THREAD. PANDEMIC SCHMANDEMIC!

The sad part about this anti-gentrifier sticker is that the Bay Area buyers will happily return to a now-discounted peninsula mansion while retaining ownership of the house next door to you that will forevermore be a party house STR.

Man, all this go back to the Bay stuff makes me think if I should stay in SF.

I had fun skiing Alpine and Squaw last Friday and Saturday. Friday was cream cheese at Alpine but Scott Chair was perfect for visibility and lack of people. After lunch, hit up KT and then snow turned to smooth slush about halfway down but snow was still smooth and forgiving. Saturday morning was surprisingly good...but only had time to lap Headwall since my 4 year old's ski team ends at 11am....ugh. TR on Instagram as I slowly edit pics and video.

It’s kinda a fucked up world... where one of my former ski racing athletes comes from behind to win the final Women’s WC GS... and another former athlete lost her dad to a cornice break/avy. Sigh.....

In other news, 6" at Rose is good. Maintain the chutes without extending the closing date so I can hike after last day!

For years I have hoped for a size restriction of 1600 sq ft. Needless to say it ain't happening. Maybe some day the mansions will be turned into apartments

You're more than welcome to come on up. Just don't support STRs, drive like an idiot, or act entitled, and we're all good. And then please go back to the bay, you don't really want to live here anyway.

I really hope you're not the fucker that removed my driver side mirror a few weeks back, passing in the shoulder while both lanes on 80 were at a standstill.

Lepistor I don't know what make you think those peninsula mansions are discounted? Real estate is hot in the BA too..

Kirkwood was sweet last Sat, the ridge is skiing awesome. I kinda wish they would just go ahead and run Vista tow on a crowded Saturday when it's in great shape, maybe they don't have enough staff or something?

^^ Peninsula mansions? They're basically 3-bedroom Wally'n'Beaver houses that happen to sell for $2 mil.

You can always hike it like the good ole days. And the. It takes a lot longer to get tracked out. Personally, I wish they never built that lift.

And I’m sure Vail likes saving the money and still calling it open.

The irony of a Tahoe Local calling a Bay Area tourist entitled amuses me.

Edit to add: Last photo is from one of the only spots on Castle Peak you can see Donner Lake and Lake Tahoe, with North Star in the background.

Love the shot of the creek crossing. Commitment.

And I think all ya tahoe locals and all y’all Bay Area yokels get in my way all over the place. On the road, in the lift lines and setting traverse tracks at the bottom of my straight line.

That’s why I’m going to mammoth next week. That will teach y’all.

Nice, Mokomahonah. That was whatsupdoc and I you met on top of Halls and then Tallac. And we learned that the summer trail is probably the preferred route--Lily to Gilmore was a slog. We did R as well:
