Southwest decided to book middle seats, oversold the flight. They offered vouchers I missed the chance. Plane boarded and they announced the plane is overweight and they need one volunteer for $1200 voucher. I and another guy raise hands. He gets picked.

But they also picked my ski bag. Lotus 138 and Wailer 112, skins, shovel, probe, and much more. "it was not flown due to aircraft weight limits. it will arrive tomorrow afternoon and no compensation is due since it will be less than 24 hours."

It was just me at the luggage desk. Nobody else got screwed.

    Fuck you southwest airlines!

This is why I carry on everything I can.

Anyone going to Kirkwood tomorrow got a pair of poles? Or skis? I have Technica Zero G Guide Pro so I can do pin-tech or MNC/WTR. 303 BSL

For the radar nerds, CHP runs stalker which is 34.7. There is pretty much no k band in California (a very few cities may run it) so it’s safe to turn off and that will eliminate a ton of falses.

I have seen Truckee PD and Sheriff run 35.5 so if you have a frequency display on your radar detector definitely slow down. 33.8 is all falses in California but it is the frequency used by NHP if you cross the border and unlike CHP they do use instant on quite often in Nevada.

And remember that for laser by the time your radar detector goes off most likely the officer already clocked your speed.

Technical zero g pro guide which I think are MNC or WTR (same thing rly?). Shit I cram them into olllld P12s (the kind with a moving AFD). Anything pin binding or any alpine with a moving AFD should work.

The fresh stuff on my deck at 6K--about 4 inches--is very crusty wet snow. Seems like the temp dropped after it stopped snowing. Resorts are reporting about a foot and a half up high, hopefully drier. But all snow is good snow, right?

Summit, seems like you didn’t want to use my skis that PD still has but I’m on my way up with some 187 GPOs w Tectons that you’re welcome to this weekend if your skis don’t turn up today. No spare avy gear though.

Hit me up if you need.

    Summit - welcome!

If you're skiing Kirkwood, I would not make the trek to Squaw/North Lake. The BC is better in South Lake anyway.

But if you do come to Truckee/North Lake, I have full BC kit for ya if you need (pack, probe, beacon, shovel, bacon, and beer). Etc. My BSL is too large otherwise I'd offer my skis.

Hope the collective provides, and IF YOU DO COME TO SQUAW, HOLLER - I'll will show you around.

Good times were had. Sunny East aspects were getting manky by 9:45 and everybody and their brother was out splitboarding on the summit. Can't blame people for getting after it when things are good but I thought all our new residents were still working 60 hr weeks.

I don't want to say the storm came in a little wet but all night long I kept getting woken up by the sound of clumps of snow falling off the trees hitting the roof. When I got up this morning I expected to see watermelons all over my yard.

Snow was still good for dawn patrol - the storm was right-side-up in tahoe donner (even if it did start w/ rain). Got to the car and the temp said 33 so I assume the sun is starting to nuke it.

Full burial on Tallac today. Don’t have any details beyond that. Didn’t see anything move, but there were some touchy wind slabs out on the west shore this morning.

Edit: Apparently the report of a burial on Tallac today was false.

I heard on Tallac the skier was able to ski out of it, another party called it in thinking it was a burial, unless another one happened.

Local Meyers guy got swept over a cliff out at blue lakes, enroute to Reno via heli longline.

I was busting trail at 5:45am on flagpole snowpack was right side up, and had a glorious first run. Decided to hit a more aggressive line at 9:35 even though temps where rapidly warming, was a stupid mistake, among others.

I got caught and luckily survived, fucked up my leg but was able to slowly ski down, I’ll have plenty of time off skiing I think to reflect back on this,

    Fuck ya!

I had planned for Tallac today but with a 1 foot limit so I bailed on that and headed out to Red Lake. Was thinking about Frog Lake Ridge but as soon as it came into view there were crowns over some of my favorite shots that had gone during the storm. And plenty that hadn't so I kept it super mellow.
Fingers crossed for the long line dude. Definitely a party that comes to mind but just a saw a non related story on IG from his GF so probably not.

Damn dood glad you didn’t get too fucked up....... Are you out of commission for awhile? I had a dentist appt this am so had a late start that kept me from hitting the alpine. most of my buds were already out n about so I was rolling solo to fp when friends on tallac alerted me to some instabilities in the new snow so i bailed n hit the resort slack instead......The timing would have had me climbing up as that happened. I’m guessing the skinner got obliterated ya?

Yup not sure what’s wrong yet but I’m guessing I’m out of commission for awhile. Yup skinner got hit, my buddys did a beacon search to make sure no one was caught, talking with the others out there every one was accounted for.

Damn--scary shot there. I'm glad to hear you made it through mostly ok. Sounds like it was bigger and more slabby over on the W side.

I found about 6-8" of stable, somewhat heavy pow and weird crusts in unexpected places on the E side. The sun was nuking hard, so those aspects are def done. It was quite windy across the ridge.
