Did a few laps up at Sierra today, snow was a lot denser than I expected, on the bright side it skied bottomless.

It does seem like they've been writing reports with a less experienced audience in mind this year, however that could just be me confounding my perception with reality.

Was noticing a lot of movement yesterday (before this storm) on the old snow/rain crust interface with the storm from Sunday/Monday. The cold & light powder did not bond really at all. Add on the weight from this storm and I could maybe see the reason. idk though, it does seem a little over the top -at least for the time being and current accumulation

I will also add in that this batch came in wet and heavy on top of the last couple of storms that were champagne powder. I did 5 laps at alpine in the morning and had enough of lines. The off piste conditions were pretty meh compared to the last two days. Definitely base builder snow again.

I like what I am hearing and seeing. We need some wetter snow to spackle onto the rocks and stick so lighter snow can adhere to that. I’m looking for shark free skiing this winter.

Round 2 filling in down here.

Interesting. Wind and S@T are two words you don't often hear in the same sentence.

Sierra has gotten a lot more conservative since the wind blew a tree down on west bowl a number of years ago and bounced some folks off the lift.

Good news is the fire hose that migrated south has moved back north and it’s dumping snow right now

Truckee airport cams show no snow on the runway around 1:30pm so maybe warmer temps? It came in with a force last night in SF and now pouring in San Jose.

50 has definitely closed from Stateline to Carson City. Back in mid December 96' I was driving from Colorado to South Lake, with repeated attempts and asking NDOT for hours about opening. One of the megastorms with a foot or two on Nevada floor. At 2am, pre-smartphone, the 800 number for Caltrans didn't mention 88 closed from Nevada side, so ended up taking 88 to 89 to 50 at Meyers. One lane, white knuckle, Chevy truck, face shots and first tracking all the way to Meyers. Definitely the snowiest drive I have ever done in my life. One of those drives where you just keep saying 'how the hell is this open!'

It is amazing the equipment the airport has and how quickly they can clear runways and taxiways. We had 2-3 hours of no snow/hazy sun and black surfaces cleared. Snowing again.

3 snowpack obs in so far on SAC today. Still yet to see anything that would even warrant a high rating.
