Down here in Verdi it started a about an hour ago. 3 inches already. No wind, coming straight down. Pretty sure they will start blocking 80 West from here before long

80 tends to be more of a shitshow and is obviously farther but doesn't tend to have the extended closings the spur has, though it certainly can. Also the storm is supposed to be a bit stronger in the 88 region

For Carson City I think I would try and stick to US 50. But really I don't travel that side of the lake often. The challenge is just getting to the Tahoe area. Fine once you're up here.

Having lived around here since I was in Kimmy garden. I am gonna suggest you do. Middle of the night if possible. Check to make sure 50 goes. If open east to Tahoe. Do it. It's never closed around South shore and down to Carson City

I don't know exactly how far north you have to drive to get to 50 but it's closer than 80. And much more direct to Carson City/ South shore

Seconded. 80 closes way more often than 50 and is a longer drive. Closures last longer too. I wouldn't go over Donner unless you're already committed to north lake skiing (Alterra, Sugar Bowl, Homewood, Northstar, Rose).

Check out this article from Reno Gazette Journal:

No, you can't drive on Dog Valley, Henness Pass roads when weather shuts down I-80

    https://www.rgj.com/story/news/2021/...es/4268175001/

Oh, and apparently don’t think about driving through dog valley to avoid 80

From the west side you wouldn’t get far. At Boca they stop plowing. Surprised this is even an issue. I guess when it’s low tide but def not after this storm.....

Interesting. 4" and very calm on the Carson side of 50. I wonder if they'll plow my street before next week....

~8" or so on the deck in Tahoe City. Currently calm winds with light snow.

They both split off in Sac, so he needs to get there first. I agree with the middle of the night thing. Otherwise 50 will be bumper to bumper the whole way. Slow roll, but it will open much earlier than 88 likely and won't re close due to buffoons crashing their cars into each other.

50 is way prettier as well.

Extreme? Singling out Carson Pass as a reason for the extreme rating when they got maybe a foot is having me lose a little respect for SAC.

^^ I was expecting high. The last time we saw extreme it was so bad the resorts just fully closed, and yet KT is on the schedule this morning. Seems like maybe they're trying to make a point, but that can be a bad thing in the long run in terms of people's perceptions based on the rating.

I was talking about open lifts. There are a few things open now, most notably KT
