Be careful out there everyone. I know there's some debate about the "Extreme" danger rating, but I was involved in an inbounds slide at KW today.

My partner dropped a short untracked shot below Cave Rock and the slope gave out under her. It was a small slide that didn't go too far, but she still ended up buried up to her neck. I was able to dig her out in a few minutes and everything was fine. But it was terrifying to watch and I can imagine it could have been worse.

Apparently carrying gear is only for when you have a rescue agreement with your buddies. Digging out strangers is for other people. Kinda like wearing a mask during a pandemic.

Damn. That area is like a meat grinder. Even with all the snow we have had. Glad to hear she is okay.

It was busy at Squaw but it was an awesome day. I feel like I got the deep powder day I needed out of my system. Long line for KT but an amazing first run on powdery pillows. Then a few runs on Paulsen's Gully and then had to wait in another long line for Squaw One. Chair popped at noon and first run on Sibo was DEEEEP. Did two runs on Sibo and headed to Solitude and it was great (but nothing amazing). I grabbed a 10 minute burger at Arc and then hit Gold Coast and for whatever reason, nobody hit the line right under the Emigrant lift. I skied that 6 times in a row. Low angle for sure but so fun hitting deep, fresh snow on each run. Got down at 4pm and then it took 1.5 hours to get out of the parking lot and to downtown Truckee. Welcome back to pre-covid traffic. But today didn't suck, at all.

    Observations from Friday:

Saw a Lexus stuck in the berm at Alder Creek/89 at 7 am. Was still there at 5 pm

Friend witnessed some impatient jackhole plow into 3 cars at the intersection of Northwoods and Donner Pass Road yesterday.

2 newbie jongs attempting to figure out their brand spanking new, fresh out of the wrapper AT set-ups in the Village Express lift line at the Star.

Traffic leaving The Star was gridlocked both ways on 267 at 4 pm; lottsa cars with overflowing ski racks.

First SAR of 2021 happened on 1/28:

Waiting for a buddy at the trailhead this morning and reminiscing yesterday. Freshies all day at the wood. Skied pretty darn bottomless except over cliffs. Not many photos as we skied bell to bell but here’s one - toward the end of the day traversing from 6 all the way out towards 10, including several uphills. Tits deep on the way down.

Rose at 8:05 a.m. I think it’s going to be busy today. Five runs and I’m outta here.

Was the ridge closed? Looks beautiful.

So 10 was closed but terrain was open? Odd call. Wonder if they had issues firing up 10.

They had staff skiing 10 end of day yesterday but it never opened - also thought that was odd. Yeah ridge was closed but the terrain directly beneath it was open. Hadn’t experienced that before but damn it was good. Sun came out halfway through the traverse and had the deepest run of the day and year after that pic

yeah woulda been nice if 10 ran yesterday. Oh well, nice for Patrol to get sum. Palisades in the other direction was awesome, best skiing I've had in a long time.

The chair 6 line was not much fun in the morning.

Looks like Sierra might have shit the bed today. Resort 100% full around 8:40, but peeps with purchased tix/passes stuck in the traffic getting into resort. SaT offering credit for future dates...

It’s nice when the traverse isn’t deep but the descent is super deep. I punched in a few traverses yesterday. It was a deep slog on 138-waist boards.

Many many years ago I drove up from Sacramento on the Saturday after a 3 foot dump (snow), parked on Castle Valley Rd around 8 or 9ish, I'm guessing and started breaking trail up the road up to Castle Pass. After 15 minutes or so I looked back and saw a couple of guys. I stopped, they stopped. A while later I looked back and there were 10, I stopped, they all stopped. Eventually I led maybe 30 people to Castle Pass and not one of those assholes would break trail.

Very steady traffic both directions on DPR in front of my house. Yesterday Sugar Bowl lot was full, but there was almost no traffic by my house. I can only imagine the shit show today.

I've had this same experience going from the 89 pullout to Silver Peak (it's about 5-6 miles). I mean, they were smart, where else was I going to go?

Just gave up at 2pm. Looking for a late ski and traffic stopped all the way to Olson house at Big Chief. Perfect storm of jerry gaper shit show fuckery. Salty........this place is spoiled milk on weekends. Couldn’t handle three hrs in traffic for two hrs of skiing. 89 back to Truckee is gonna constipate like a hard turd here in about an hr I bet.
