That said, even though Boreal's lot was overflowing, the hill appeared empty.
Ditto for Soda Springs and T/R
Are they all inside at the foam pits? I rarely get up that way but it seems fairly busy year round the past years

Tons of people on the Donner Lake "beach" today. It's not just the usual mostly ski crowd here. Combination of easing of the rules and city bound folks needing some fresh air and something to do. The people renting next door haven't been skiers like they have been in past years. While crowds suck the increased interest in the outdoors is a good thing--bikes and kayaks selling out, XC ski inventory seems mostly gone (I was half heartedly thinking about XC skis). Wonder what will happen when things go back to normal, if they do.

The scene at Schralpine was very subdued today. Upper lots did not even come close to filling. Only line was at Summit today. Following the sun, mandatory. Weird because Truckee was a zoo.

Well, of course. But the Christmas week blackout was just about the same as the week prior. Talking to mountain staff, they were prepared for much higher numbers...

I wonder how the percentages work out betwwen the two passes in regards to those that have full versions. Seems Kirkwood and Heavenly are never crowded during blackout days.

My first day on skis this season. Skied one of these couloirs, all untracked, and just this ridge alone will keep me busy for a couple of weeks.

Resorts are closed, tons of rando skiers, but luckily for me, they don't like to ski couloirs

Are you near Chamonix? Sounds like premium couloir skiing conditions.

I'm in the French Pyrenees, bareges.

In chamonix, where i spent a fair x amount of time, there would be bumps on couloirs like this, so many people.

Yup. Epic will be epic crowds tomorrow. Ikon at least has Sunday blacked as well. Might tamper the Monday crowd at Alterra/Ghettos as well.

OG, I'm ready to unload a waxless 75mm setup with ez skins and voile removable cables. 189 Fischer s-bound 112 skis and 46 bcx8 boots.

Indeed. That's where the shrine is. Tuck it's dry in the basin. Looks like late October when there's been one good storm a week ago. Not the end of January. Buy stock in firefighting?

I’ve seen worse seasons starts. Several. One of the drought years it did not really snow until Mif February with much less on the ground than now. But it could be better. Doc clears me to ski mellow starting Feb, so I’d expect it to start snowing around then and then get good in March when I can go fast.

Chamonix couloirs were and are way way over my head, but I was shocked to find out that the regular Vallee Blanche is sort of a bump run. Given how famous it is I shouldn't have been surprised.
