was on the last turn down to strawberry and stopped real quick seeing some snowboarders walking up. I yelled down 'why are you guys hiking up' and they said it was shorter to hike it then wait in the gondola. thanked them for their research and headed back to jp via penny lane.
Did you read that before you hit send? Not the crowds yet people were hiking up from Strawberry, yeah, ok.

Snowbird had totally no crowds today, the people hiking from Zoom to Wilbere were doing it purely for exercise, all about the cardio bro.

it was crowded as shit but you have to find the right lifts at the right times. place ebbs and flows, mate. strawberry is a 'terrain trap' of humans. no other way out while ohter lifts are walk on

and by not the crowds i mean it's not the shit show of the cottonwoods, the road, the parking the powder panic, etc, etc.

no shitshow this time around, an hour up and 45 min down and the 11 yr old and i expected double that.

was thinking of heading to west bowl after a lap in meadows but the super floaty turns and face shots all the way down changed my mind. just lapped the shit out of that area. snow came in heavy, right side up and bonded well. surprisingly, no instabilities noted at all but was not on anything steep. great day to be out. go get it.

I need to go to Utah.
    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

This idea popped in my head but can you imagine resort parking lot numbers of people in the backcountry?

I was going up with the 7 year old around 1:45 and ran into a pause in traffic. After the first traffic update from the twitter alerts, I turned around and took the family sledding. Prayers for the two cars in the accident.

We were headed up for the afternoon and hit stopped traffic just around the corner, 100 yards below the scene at most. Waited a little while to make sure I wouldn't be impeding any emergency vehicles coming up then bailed.

Left Soli parking lot at 2:45, still sitting at 6:20. We started moving around 530ish and making good distance. I'm assuming the victims were transported hours ago but UDOT decided the 2 totaled vehicles need to be extracted right NOW so a few thousand cars waiting again. Why the hell dont they release the pressure valve of the thousand+ cars then extract the 2 totaled vehicles later?

Nice to get out and stretch the legs today. It's been a while. Spuces main lot was full at 7:30 but the lot in the campground still had space. Lots of folks out in Mill D North. Snow was dense and a bit of work at lower angles but the leg day was appreciated. Not sure that the last run on our circuit off Tom's hill was worth it after getting stuck on the road at 2:30 just after the accident at the S-curves. Just got through in the first release at 5. Looks like it's been closed again for the last hour so lots of folks stuck up there. The two vehicles went off above and just around the corner from the S-curves where the road is narrow with no guard rail and about 100 vert? down to the creek.

We were next to this sign for a while:

I've started just assuming that, regardless of weather, any time I turn up the canyon in winter I might have to spend several hours in my car. Water, food, extra clothes, at least 3/4 tank, etc. every time.

ha, yeah, I have layers and I do have food, but it's hard to eat right now without feeling like throwing up. Dumbass jong me drank all my water.

I do have coffee though, fittingly.

And sorry you guys are still stuck. We had the same thought about leaving the vehicles until after the exodus. Water quality may be the priority.

I can't decide if I'm bummed that I blew my LCL or psyched that I'm not blowing a gasket sitting in the car with no food or beer...
The last time I was stuck in BCC Ms Boissal almost got in a fight with people who were passing in the left lane (and immediately getting stuck against a cop and a tow truck), preventing any hope of emergency vehicles ever going up the canyon. She was leaning across me and halfway out my window shouting at people that she was going to murder them. Lack of food does terrible things to her.

Edit: damn that video is hard to watch. Driving up there in a Subi all pumped to go ski and some coal-rolling asshat plows you off the road and into the creek. Apparently 3 trauma-1 activations at IMC with 2 being very serious.

Checked out the Nordic Express today. It is awesome to see a new option for riding around here. 4/5 Ogdens. Will reserve 5/5 Ogdens for when they build a lift to the top
