My understanding is that if they are vaccinated, they can come in to the US without a test. The return to Canada does require a test, but they can take it before they even leave Canada if they are gone for less than 72 hours. There is probably going to be a bunch of pressure to ease the restrictions for vaccinated Canadians returning home. Got to get that Costco/TJs run in!

Probably too much effort to come for one day, but I wouldn't too surprised if all the Canadian Glacier property owners are coming down regularly.

They're making 6MW onshore wind turbines these days with multi part blades and modular tower sections, just you know, if Duncan feels like putting a tower climb at the top of his daily snowshoe hike.

View from the top would be acceptable on nice days and the chunks of ice it would launch off the blades would take care of the overcrowding issue.

I hear something about a bomb cyclone going off up around Vancouver Island or something. Sounds intense.

    https://news.yahoo.com/bomb-cyclone-...ycsrp_catchall

The US Pacific Northwestern states of Washington, Oregon and California have been warned that a strong jet stream over the Pacific Ocean could be about to toss a “bomb cyclone” their way.

“Bombogenesis is the technical term. ‘Bomb cyclone’ is a shortened version of it, better for social media,” weather expert Ryan Maue has said.
Some ski company needs to come out with a bad ass powder ski called the Bombogenesis.

    Meh, weather sensationalism.

We've been staying at Iron Springs this week. Can confirm there was some big surf last night and this morning before we left.

Scary black sky to the northwest.

As we have passed the 18th does anyone know how the snowplow crews and capabilities have been impacted by the vaccine mandate?

WSDOT lost 402 employees due to the mandate, including 13 of 17 employees in its Goldendale office. That could have implications for clearing Satus Pass on Highway 97 between Goldendale and Toppenish. Snowplows are also sometimes needed to clear Highway 14, a popular trucking route, which runs on the Washington side of the Columbia River Gorge.
The majority of DOT losses were ferry workers:

At the start of work Monday, WSDOT had 6,813 employees. By the end of the day, 402 were gone, roughly 6% of the total work force. Of that number, 358 were fired for refusing to get the vaccine. There were a total of 63 retirements, 19 were previously planned and not due to the mandate.
    ...

The largest segment of WSDOT employees to lose their jobs falls under the ferry service, which is already struggling to crew its boats.

The state reports that 132 ferry service employees have lost their jobs, and 121 of them were fired for refusing to get vaccinated. Eight retired instead of getting the shot, and another three retired for unknown reasons.

Looks like WSDOT is planning to close HWY 20 for the winter on November 15th or sooner if conditions worsen. Just FYI if you were planning a Thanksgiving trip to the Methow.

It's looking white up there from the east. The pass got hit with rain a couple days ago. I'm not sure how much higher above pass level the rain went but it was enough to kick a mudslide off of the Liberty Bell group that closed the road for a day. I'd say you could probably find a few turns amongst rocks, branches and rain crust but it'd be a matter of how high you want to climb and how much damage you want to do to your skis and self for a bit of shitty skiing.

Strong negative. Up there last Monday. Zero base, deceptive 8-12 on top of brush and rocks. If you do, bring your worst rock skis
