Everyone was saying the foliage in CO was going to turn early because of the drought and go brown really quick, but I found it to be pretty normal this year.

In most places on the Western Slope it is hanging on forever too with the mild weather.

Most of the foliage here is going off, but I prefer to cut down the brush with all the pretty colors. Makes for safer and much more fun skiing.

Reasons to not rake the leaves:

Wildlife ranging from turtles and toads to songbirds, mammals and invertebrates rely on leaf litter for food, shelter and nesting material. Many moth and butterfly caterpillars overwinter in fallen leaves before emerging in spring. So please, Leave the Leaves!

So no raking the forest then? But, but, but it will prevent wildfires...

Ya my wife isn't amused at the idea of taking it into the flower beds. In my mind that's a win-win.

Nothing prettier than a neatly mowed lawn in the fall - all that vibrant green against the fall colors in the trees and in the sky - with all the beautiful fallen leaves tucked away out of sight.

Or shoved into your neighbor's back 40.
I still call it The Jake.
