Yes, buy fat skis. Now. On those epic days it does make a big difference. You will be amazed what "surfing" pow really means. Sure they won't be in use that often, but when the conditions allow it its a blast.

I mean a guy could do this on 110 waist skis but why if you don’t have to.
IMO, 110 underfoot seems just about perfect for that snow and terrain.

Yes, it definitely makes a difference on deep days, especially when you hit lower angle pow on run outs, but also more fun on the steep and deep. For reference I have some 122 Noctas. You don't need to go up to 120+ but it's definitely noticeable once you get over 115 or so.

Fat skis in minimal snow are underappreciated.

For chop, go bigger and faster and you'll just skip across the top of the chop. A glorious feeling. Of course Utah chop is pretty forgiving

^^This. I had some 128's and they were awesome in the deep, but they deflected a bit too much in chop. Now I ski 118's on pow days (and lots of other days because I love them) and that's about perfect for pow and chop IMO.

    Fight me! Lol
If given the option, you choose to use foot rests on chairlifts?

Because you can. One could also ski that (and have fun) with 65mm waist width skis.

Just curious. My feet actually don’t hurt when I ski. Also, foot rests are generally in conjunction with a safety bar and I’m usually not worried about falling off a chair. YMMV.

edit: don’t get me wrong. I definitely lower the safety bar every single lap when I’m skiing with my 5 year old, and I have no problem lowering it if I’m riding with strangers who feel more comfortable with it down. But I still don’t really use the foot rest part.

I demo'd the Bent Chetler 120's a number of years ago on a non-pow slushy spring day and they were a ton of fun even without any fresh snow. I'd say go for it, the bigger the better.

The foot rest more had to do with the weight of the skis on the knees, pulling down from hanging off the chair, as my feet don’t bother me skiing. Super goats with pivot 18’s are crazy heavy and rule inbounds. I have other big heavy skis and some skinny super heavies and the weight gets annoying by the top of the lift. On the down they truck and I don’t notice the weight as a negative.

Interesting. I’m not familiar with Super Goats. Must be pretty heavy...
