I was at Gore on Monday. Rumor, Lies and Hawkeye were reasonably fat, with some nice bumps. I don't think Rumor and Lies will be groomed again this year.

    The Rumor on Monday

We also skied Chatiemac and Echo. Chatiemac was a blast but had one pinch point that probably won't make it to the weekend

    Speaking of Tux...

Our cherished family photo of my Grandfather hamming it up and skiing in top hat and tails in the 1940’s. I also have his ski guidebook from 1939 which was a gift from my Grandmother to him and passed on to me. It’s a fascinating read on all the old ski zones of New England from that era. Also some medals from races that he entered... seems he was good at coming in second!

Skiing in the east was sweet until that book came out. It’s been nothing but gapers everywhere since then......

So cool singlecross! I grew up in a ski club surrounded by ex 10th guys they were all prolific in their own way. the photographs, movies and memorabilia in that club were amazing. What a time to be out on the hill in the East!

A while back the club sold off some of the collection of great old photos - lucky to have gotten a few of them.

Yes, it’s good to keep this stuff alive. Some funny family stories from that era include traveling north to ski in a car with the rumble seat. Two people in the cab and one in the rumble seat outside with the ski gear. The person who drew the short straw for the rumble seat got a bearskin blanket and a bottle of rum to keep them “comfortable” for the journey.

    RIP peter green.
i got turned onto that era of the band 30yrs back via the monks of doom (proggy camper van beethoven side-project) covering oh well.
later learned that green manalishi (made famous by judas priest) was also penned by green. good stuff, but i still like rumours-era mac too. and not only because it reminds me of the first beer parties in 8th grade (!!). cause i'm cool enough to know it's not either / or, but AND ;0]

more about this on my blog

Those medals from abnaki are awesome, crazy that the place is still going. I spent a lot of time there as a kid (although mostly in the hockey rink)

My grandfather was part of the ccc crew that cit the trails on Cannon. I have skis he used from ‘38 til 1967, when his boots disintegrated in the bindings. He never skied again.

The Dartmouth Outing Club Moosilauke Downmountain Race medal is probably most dear to me as that race is credited as planting the seed of competitive ski racing in N.America in 1927. Interesting history here:

    https://journal.alpsandmeters.com/jo...ional-downhill

"The event ended with a huge bonfire at the bottom of the run, complete with hot soup—the race had been a major success"

Bonfires! Hot Soup! We are indeed all standing on the shoulders of our forebears.

I hope to host a Mag gathering at Saddleback next season with you all. Bonfires, soup, and possibly a downmountain race. Ahhh... to dream!
