Nice surprise 3” of fresh at Saddleback today which softened things up nicely. Tired of having been relegated to mostly cruising groomers this season, I spent most of the day in the trees and even found some decent bumps for New England. Ski on lifts all day. Filled out a simple form to camp in the upper parking lot for the night to hit it again tomorrow. Happy place.

    a day of firsts.
first time skiing in the 'daks or a NYS-run area in over 10 years
first time driving north to ski in my 20-21 campaign.
    first time at gore

late arrival but brought the snowl with me

lots of nice untracked terrain under the lifts...do they ever open it? much of it looks MRG-like - but without skiers.

was dumping hard by *my* first chair.
snow bonded well with the fast and firm surfaces
the effect was for silky turns on shallow fresh cover.
no signs of crust at day's end.
Classic Gore. The stuff not tracked in pic 2 and 3 is skiable, and I'm assuming with present conditions, is more than skiable now. But that's what happens when a state beauracrat runs the ski patrol.

I really want to ski there, loved it when I lived closer, but can't depend on shit being open on a weekday if I do the drive. Certainly hardly as much as Killington. I have had two mountain employees admit to me that's because of staffing. That's what happens when you operate a taxpayer funded non profit.

Amazing pics Hank. MRG on a weekday is one of the best ski experiences there is...anywhere.

One of my top 10 pow days in 50+ years of skiing was at Lab in the early aughts...never liked the layout at Song.

yea it looked really tempting. was a case of not knowing the ropes and figuring if no one is skiing under the lifts they must be disappearing offenders. had i seen any tracks i would have hit those in a second. am intrigued by the place. hoping to get back again this season. will have to study the trail map better. the layout is a bit complicated
(no unplanned runs to the base though)

I know. There used to be some weird shit going on up on Danby Mtn Rd.

Sounds like even some of the crazy locals are afraid of this dude though.

Ya. The mtn rd got cleaned up a bit for the craziness.

The dude is definitely nuts. No matter what it’s gonna be interesting how it continues to play out, and it’s definitely not gonna end any time soon. I don’t like it but honestly it is what it is. People have plenty of money around him, no one is willing to buy him out yet, but I’m sure that will happen eventually.

The do open the runs under the lifts and they are some of the best "trails."

I heard the guy who poached High Pines (that last pic) got pretty banged up.

Bucket - first time at Gore, what did you think overall?
