Guns going this morning at the River. Impressive show of capacity with at least three trails in the main pod (T2, Upper Punch, and the top of Right Stuff, probably Jungle Road as well) plus Lights Out from the top of Jordan down to Aurora.

Any ideas on opening day at SR? I went last year and it was a hoot. I think this year it's season pass holders only... Which I don't have.

I heard a rumor that this weekend was possible. I wouldn't rule it out given the capacity on display yesterday, but it would help if the precip between now and then was more frozen than not. The Covid page on the site says:

Been lurking the new thread, finally time to check in since its going to snow all the way down to MA.
Going to be a weird season that is for damn sure. No pass/no ski house for me this season, but that hasn't stopped the old housemates from doing their thing. Bunch of entitled 20somethings all living in Boston up there every weekend in the same house is going to be interesting.... I'm sure this is far from the only case. We shall see I guess.
Hopefully all these named storms from this fall set a good precedent for the season; would be nice to finally get a season that some Noreasters hit all of New England, not just Boston. Have a few zones on my list that would be nice to get into with the right winds.
Can't wait to see some of the backcountry shenanigans that are sure to happen, might be time to start winding skintracks around in circles to confuse the backcountrytouringinnewengland crowd.

I left mass when I turned 18. How do you even tour in the northeast with all the private land (serious question).

More challenging than out West. ADK, Presidentials in NH, Baxter in ME, Chic Chocs in Quebec are some of larger areas. Northern Vt the woods thin a bit and there has been glading work by groups like Rasta in Vt and gba in Nh and Me. Tough for sure and with a huge surge of newbies parking lots will be a shit show

Yeah I know quite a few in the vermont area but I can't imagine many of the people being happy with tons of new people coming into the sport. A lot of the places seemed pretty hush hush or overcrowded as it was. Plus, I feel like vermont has a much better situation than maine or NH outside the whites.

Better woods and snow in Northern Vermont for sure. There were some problems at the parking by Jay on 242 I heard about last year. Will be interesting to see how it goes this year

Car break ins. Just going off memory. Could have been tweakers, but lot can fill especially when folks are spotting a car for one run off the back of Jay. At the time I wondered if out of staters were being targeted. Someone local could say more and my memory could be whacked

Millions of acres of state land all over NY.
Additionally thousands of acres in county parks and land trusts where I live.

I've been spotting cars there for a long time now and can attest to the bottom lot on 242 getting more and more crowded over the years, especially on weekends & pow days. We used to primarily hitch back to the resort when taking a side country lap out there but with COVID I imagine there will be a lot more car drops this year. sometimes that shit get's real sketchy with cars coming downhill from the pass in rough conditions and people not paying attention.
We skinned from the top lot a bunch of times during quarantine this past season once the lifts got shut down - didn't hear of any break-ins up there, but I think I heard rumors of one happening at the Big Jay lot further down Montgomery way, not sure on that one though.my head is perpetually in the clouds

This is true. The Green Mountain spine gets better skiing weather than most of New England, plus Vermont allows access to private land by law, unless posted otherwise (so as long as you don't need to cut it first and it's not posted, you can ski it, or use it to access public land that is good skiing).
I found some pretty fun meadow-skipping terrain last year after everyone got booted from both nearby ski areas, but the Presidentials and Greens sure seem to have a much higher density of skiable zones. Or maybe I've just repressed enough memories of schwacking through spruce-fir thickets to think so.

What are you guys talking about? Vt is too cold and never gets enough snow. I think people should stay in Ma or head down south. Isn’t there a thread on skiing in VA & W. VA? I hear that is where its at.
