Well done! Snow is getting deep up high here too. Good start to the season.

Terrain expansion at LL looks good, I think? I've poked around in that frontside expansion area a little bit - seems like fun terrain. And while the Summit platter was an entertaining novelty, having a chair up that way seems to make sense. Not sure if that means the terrain over that way will get hammered now though.

Not that it really affects me since you Canadians won't be letting me across the border anytime soon (as you shouldn't - it's a shit show down here).

It will be weird there now. The platter was a staple. Hope the winds don’t shut the chair down too much. It can get fuckin nuts up there.

    2020/2021 CANADIAN ROCKIES THREAD

    Sad news.

    https://mountainconditions.ca/report...fatal-incident

Pays to be extra careful during early season conditions. Lots of sharks out there.

I have mixed feelings on the expansion.

I like that west bowl will be inbounds, and easier to get out of.

I'm not sure on the new chair. I just worried it will increase backside traffic too much. Besides limiting numbers, if you can't make it up the poma, you're going to struggle on the way down, and shouldn't be in that terrain. But then, there's rarely much of a line, excpet busy weekends and pow days.

Platter was nice when it was puking in the alpine. Not many would use it so you could have it to yourself and just ski fence lines. I understand the return station for the quad will be the same location si you'll still have to traverse westbowl deepthroat. Im guessing theyll cut an actual traverse out though. Could be a bit spicy on the first lap out the star wars traverse

Nakiska (maybe applicable to all RCR resorts?) released their Covid Policy.

    Highlights:

Not selling day tickets at the resort. Online sales only and there will be a cap. Expect busy times to sell out.

No limits for Passholders. No reservations needed.

Cohorts can load lifts together. Singles can be paired with one other single on a quad or ride solo on their double chair.

    https://skinakiska.com/covid-19/?fbc...XxRFZTwGSheFLs

Edit: Same rules for fernie. 2 strangers can ride a triple together.

At kicking horse. Only 2 singles per gondola (cohort up to 8). Yikes

^^^ wow... it's official... not going to kickinghorse on weekends this year, if at all.

    That's a bummer.

Edit to add: how are they going determine or enforce "cohort" groups? I foresee people saying they are together to get on the lift faster.

I don't think they will be able to enforce the cohort groups.

I imagine people are going to make a lot of new friends, but you do need to commit to your a cohort or single line. They might ask about your group up front to prevent pairings in line. They might not care.

It makes it easier for people to ride alone if that's their choice.

I try to follow the snow with the RCR Super Pass. All things equal, I prefer Kicking Horse. I might be focusing more on Fernie and Louise this year.....

Yeee from those pics on the 17th it definitely looks promising. Might have to go wait in LONG line for a few turns.

In general tho, I think weekday skiing might be where it's at this year. Or sleeping in the lot the night before I also feel like ALOT of people will try to hit up the backcountry this year. Might balance itself out?

Found some surprisingly good turns in K country earlier this week. It was obviously low tide and we picked our spots carefully but we didn't hit much up high and then just tip toed down low.
