At least in the Kan the deep freeze seemed to end mid-day yesterday as -25 at the trailhead became -4 back at the vehicle. The solar effect was quite strong and there were multiple naturals on solar aspects in the alpine. Stuck to north facing lines that were riding well. Some faceting of the recent storm snow made breaking trail a chore, but no complaints on the down!

Lots of ambitious lines being skied in the area - a drive down the Spray makes for some interesting spotting (and beta). That said, there are still plenty of honey holes in between the spots in guidebooks. Get at it mags!

Keep those secrets to yourself or it will end up like the ski hills of tryst and hero’s.

And yes it was a great day out there, trail breaking was a breeze compared to a couple weeks ago...

Quite deliberately haven't named any spots, but yeah, not interested in turning the rest of that park into the parade you see at those trailheads.

Kinda like the used to be secret spots on the 93. First day up that way this year today and Holy fuck who gave out the info? SUVs and Subarus parked on the hiway everywhere.
The bottom of my go to zone looked like the bottom of Taynton bowl.
I've been hitting this area for years and rarely have seen other tracks.

"Guidebook pressure" on 93N has driven a lot of folks 93S from the sounds of it...

To me so far it seems to be a whole lot of 'meadow skipping' going on while the 'fun' terrain gets left untouched.

The root of the problem can be traced back to the early biglines.com forum/the early biglines.com photo section and their misguided devotees.

The only run in Spray safe from the masses of Mec’rs and backcountry YYC tards these days is the long flat approach to your secret stash!

Yeah keep walking north along that spot... When you get to bow summit you know you're close. Don't worry Tim. Your disciples have kept the Kan safe.

Hey Banff folks. Buddy headed to Sunshine tomorrow. What time should he plan to be in parking lot? Still pre-730AM? Friday crowds?

A couple of weeks ago due to some "issues" we didn't roll into the Sunshine lot on Friday until around 9:30am. Parked about 6th row and walked straight onto the gondola. No line up whatsoever. YMMV but I've found Friday crowds to be non-existent.

And Shames closed for Sunday due to too much snow on the road. They would have opened with ove 110 new.
