Lol... you think my statement was the dumbest in this thread... that's rich.
You said we should let a virus run through the population. Yeah true colors.
Edit: I actually also said I'm stupid in regards to heath measures in pandemic and that's why I listen to experts. You don't even know you're stupid and that's dangerous.Goal: ski in the 2018/19 season

“ Don't get why its hard to just have a nuanced conversation. Everything being so black and white seems very strange for a situation that is absolutly anything but.”
You can’t claim to be interested in a nuanced conversation when your default counter to everyone here is that we are scared.

Ignoring all the other ranting in this thread, I'm wondering what they mean by "Canadians" with this new rule. Is it Canadian residents? Or is it everyone who falls into the "right to enter Canada" category that now appears with the recent update to the ArriveCan app (which includes Canadian citizens living abroad)?
I'm a dual citizen, so it would be nice if I didn't have to get a PCR test just to go up to visit family for half a day. At least this is a step in the right direction.

Quebec is making another announcement today, it sounds like the passport is going to be at the discretion of big boxes now. Weed and liquor will no longer require it. Gyms, small businesses, etc, as they were.

"Reuters) - Canada will ease entry for fully vaccinated international travelers starting on Feb. 28 as COVID-19 cases decline, allowing a rapid antigen test for travelers instead of a molecular one, officials said on Tuesday.
The new measures, which include dropping compulsory testing on entry, were announced by federal government ministers at a briefing. Canada will also drop coronavirus testing requirements for fully vaccinated Canadians who make short trips - less than 72 hours"
Six days to late for it to effect me. Oh well.

Keyboard warriors keep on keeping on.
Meanwhile starting 2/28 the PCR test requirement is getting dropped!!!! Hopefully they do away with the random tests too.

I was thinking "dropping compulsory testing on entry" meant no more random tests, no?

^ In what way was it not random?

Yeah I crossed last week and had to have PCR test results. I went through the Lynden crossing though, which doesn't have on the spot testing. My wife got a test kit, I didn't.
Sounds like the new rule will apply to everyone crossing into Canada though (just need an antigen test now), and back to the 72-hour rule for Canadian residents. A welcome change for sure.
EDIT: Looks like Reuters is the only one reporting that the 72-hour rule is coming back. Other outlets are saying that it "could be reinstated ... if the situation warrants".
They called them random tests, but at some crossings they administer them to everyone who crosses (and at other crossings without test facilities on-site, they give ~50% of travelers a take-home test kit).

Interesting. Odd to do it to everyone who crosses in one location and then require it to be done at home, which relies on someone actually doing it (and doing it correctly), when entering at others. I wonder what the reasoning is for that? I would assume it is a logistical thing?

I think it's logistical. At least in our area, the high-traffic border crossings have temporary testing facilities set up, and the low-traffic ones are giving out kits.
The at-home test kits required registering online and doing it over video chat with a "specialist" (college kid working part-time from who-knows-where). But plenty of folks were just tossing the kits as soon as they got home.

Keep the border shut, I cat skied Baldface with 6 Americans, most loud mouthed, arrogant, Instagram influencing Jerry’s with too much money and too little skill I’ve EVER been around. Stay in your own country and argue poliass there.
Between the yanks posting poliass in this thread and the 6 in the cat I was in… your entire country can stay home.
(All sarcasm for those that still have a sense of humour, I miss my American brothers and can’t wait for this border to be wide open)

I'll post some more detailed replies to posts in a bit, but it honestly sounds like the thing we are (almost?) all in agreement about is that we want the end of restrictions lockdowns passports etc. I'm down with that. I think we should get our way.

Canada Closed until US Gets Covid 19 Under Control
that same person also made a reference to speeding tickets being up. well, from my observations, cops have been on vacation since covid started. at the same time, pedestrian deaths are up due to lack of enforcement and more drivers since no one is on mass transit. even if it was true, would enforcement of the laws be a bad thing when those laws protect innocent people?
i wonder if you could apply the same logic to masks, vaccines, capacity limitations, and border crossings. curious.j'ai des grands instants de lucididididididididi

I also thought the number of single vehicle accidents was up
from NYT
The United States is enduring its most severe increase in traffic deaths since the 1940s.
It is a sharp change from the recent norm, too. Deaths from vehicle crashes have generally been falling since the late 1960s, thanks to vehicle improvements, lower speed limits and declines in drunken driving, among other factors. By 2019, the annual death rate from crashes was near its lowest level since cars became a mass item in the 1920s.
But then came the Covid-19 pandemic.
Crashes — and deaths — began surging in the summer of 2020, surprising traffic experts who had hoped that relatively empty roads would cause accidents to decline. Instead, an increase in aggressive driving more than made up for the decline in driving. And crashes continued to increase when people returned to the roads, later in the pandemic.

02-18-2022, 06:03 AM #2800Taking a rapid antigen test at home is not sufficient to meet the pre-entry requirement – it must be authorized by the country in which it was purchased and must be administered by a laboratory, healthcare entity or telehealth service
