Better buy skis while you can... Huge fire at Fisher plant

    https://planetski.eu/2020/10/14/huge...sA1BHvzPFwVuoE

As if 2020 hadn't already had its way with us, now skis will be harder to come by, and probably more expensive. Not good for anyone, especially the workers there.

Wouldn't this season's skis already be in shipping containers?

Yes, more likely in stores right now. That's the point, next year's supply might be pretty short so, buy now, while you can.

Sounds like their warehouse wasn't burned, everything might be fine. Or not; it's all speculation until Fisher tells shops what's up.

I'd be surprised if the ski industry can't find the production capacity to meet demand. It's not like making skis is that hard; you can build them in a trailer. It's not complicated like making N95's. But if there is a shortage I'm sure the President, whoever he is, can invoke the Defense Production Act.

Need I remind you of Jskis installment plan...in case you still need that sticker.
It makes perfect sense...until you think about it.

No reminder needed. I bought my kid a pair of J skis last year and JLev has been bombing my inbox daily with updates for the last 365 days.

Still, even for sarcasm, it excelled; subtle, insider info, comprehensive ...... kudos!

I believe this plant produced Fischer's lower end skis, so unless Fischer's bottom line becomes an issue this shouldn't matter (at least the race skis are produced in AUT, and w other brands the good skis come out of the race rooms). But I was also told that other brands produce there as well, including Stockli (which really surprised me since Stockli kind of implies every ski is produced, by hand, in SUI). As others have said, this year's skis are shipped, I think, and I assume Fischer has insurance, so this may not matter.

Off topic: I was at the local store yesterday and they had some new Stocklis, including SR.

I dunno where they’re made, but they piss excellence! Never skied a Stockli, but damn if they don’t look better than every other ski in that shop.

If you’re worried about being able to find a brand new pair of rental skis, you could be in trouble. All Fischer’s skis that you actually want to ski are still made in AUT.

Stockli made kids skis there, all adult skis are made in SUI. I thought they moved production of kids skis, could be wrong.
