The recent media about the party in the restaurant at Big White also had to be a factor.

Yes, a lifty at Red and an employee at the Clancey’s went to Whistler for a short visit, partied, and got COVID. On his return he infected his house-mate/landlord (a friend of mine, who then booted him out)and at least couple of others. Now we have a community outbreak in Rossland.

I’ve already transitioned to summer. Snowbike back to dirt bike, skis going into storage. Not going to mope over it like last year.

    Winter is dead to me......

    Watch it start snowing.

Excellent trip reports this last week on South Coast Touring. Don't miss yesterday's Callaghan to Exodus traverse. That one is standout.

Cypress Mountain has been hitting it out of the ballpark this year. The Raven Ridge quad chair has often been ski-on even when the others have had long lines. And the moguls on First Sun and Lower Coyote 7 have been specially shaped for this years enjoyment.

First Sun moguls, top to bottom, has been the best place to ski moguls in the known universe for the months of Feb and March and April. All the varieties, in various stages of perkiness, waiting for your skis to caress their snowy -sometimes-icy- cleavage.

Today was a treat especial with hordes of hockey-sweater wrapped zany pant semi-pro mogul aficionados, demonstrating that the proper technique is actually any technique that gets you to the bottom.

Alas, today was also the last day that Raven Ridge quad chair runs this season. From now till April 11th, the other high speed chairs are still in operation. Unfortunately, that also means no more parking at the end of the lot and confusing all the main-lodge-walkers when you jump onto the cat track and ski in the opposite direction to the out-of-sight Raven Ridge quad. Sad day it is now that one must go back to boot scooting with the hordes and walk to the main lifts.

First Sun and Lower Coyote 7 deserve a summer break. Crazy Raven was also amazing this year. And for once I figured out why they named it such - there actually are two Crazy Ravens that fly around there from noon till 3 PM. Those two can be seen and heard making a racket in the tree tops. They must get some food reward in the parking lot at those times.

With that side closing, imagine how Benny must feel! Now, he's free to scatter his rocks and pebbles on Benny's all day long. If you know Benny, you know what I am talking about. I've even witnessed him boulder someone right in front of me.

As my legs repair today, I can hear them crazy birds gronking, "You'd be a crazy mate to pass up the Silver Pass at Cypress next year!". Rest assured, Crazy Ravens, pass was bought the same day it went for sale a few weeks ago.

[Stands and salutes the keepers of the Raven Ridge quad chair and thanks them for this season's great memories.]

Probed through the seracs and never touched ice which was expected for a nice April snowpack but it's always to good to get primary verification

First morning light on the glacier hits us and brings warmth. Got a couple of hours of nobody there before the long weekend crowds hit. Then skinned half the face and bootpacked (992 steps) the rest

Cold wind nips at the NW face and the rest of the group does not look enthused about the idea of scrambling the mixed iced rime to the sub-peak to ski the NW face direct so I retreated after cutting a few steps. No problem as there's enough space to do a quick cold (minus 8) transition plus the bootpack technicality made it slower going and set us half an hour behind already.

I had set the bootpack skiers right so we could hit skiers left and avoid the two other groups starting the NW face climb behind us so off we went for the first descent of the day Dan was coldest so got to go first. Turns yielded acceptable quality of sluffy, fast, confidence-inspiring rippable snow. Not bad for a steep N face in April.

Group 2 and Group 3 behind us ascending the face on our skintrack and bootpack. I'm rather proud of the steps which I tried to cut nicely and glad they got to see some (lots?) of use. Group 4 and 5 are ascending Peak 1 on the standard mountaineering route off to picture left

Then off to Peak 2 which we skinned and booted up. It's also another convenient N face but is rarely skied. I figured that if our skin up the glacier ascent route was trouble free and good (it was) and our route up Peak 1 yielded stable, dry snow (it did) then Peak 2 would shed quintuple overhead blower Tito's Tumultuous Tears joyful weeping (oh boy did it ever)
