    From Pique News Magazine:

"Vancouver Coastal Health has not returned repeated requests for more details on the current number of COVID-19 cases and statistics on variants in the resort."

The Cerise lot was slammed today; cars on both sides of road. Other lots...not so much

    The timing is very interesting.

I think they lulled us all with the 20% off for next year announced last week.

Then acting all innocent like this was “unexpected”.

    I call bs.

The timing works too well for them....Vail is a public co....it’s about returns for shareholder and mitigating cash outflows.

Ending on the perfect day (ie 6 core days left) to avoid refunds is fishy.

I’m a CPA....there’s NO way there would be positive cash flow after April 19?
No day tickets sold, just pass holders (=non-cash revenue) riding chairs.

    Not a coincidence.

I see lots of people on various forums saying that the timing is too fishy since the core season ends April 4th, but the Ts&Cs quite clearly state that the core season goes through April 17th:

"“Core Season” means the period of December 7, 2021 through April 17, 2022, which shall be deemed to consist of one hundred thirty-two (132) days."

    Pulled from https://www.epicpass.com/info/epic-c...onditions.aspx

    What am I missing here?

You're quoting the core season dates for next season.

“Core Season” means the period of December 8, 2020 through April 4, 2021, which shall be deemed to consist of one hundred eighteen (118) days.

It all does seem a little "coincidental" and "convenient"

However, it stretches credibility to imagine Bonny Henry and Adrian Dix in a Zoom linkup with the Vail overlords, conspiring to set this particular date to suit Vails bottom line.

I suspect that discussion of the closure was mainly between Whistler management and the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority, not at the province level. I don't suppose any of the conspiracy theorists will bother to put in a freedom of information request to actually find out who did talk to whom (no doubt some details would be redacted for commercial confidentiality).

Okay "Mr. stretches credibility". How do you imagine it played out then?

Why imagine? Put in a freedom of information request and find out. Even if the response redacts some of the detail it will show when who was communicating with whom.

    From Castanet news:-

Big White will shut down operations for the season a week ahead of scheduled.

Senior vice-president Michael J. Ballingall confirmed Big White will close for the season Monday afternoon at 4 p.m.

"We have seen an unprecedented amount of inquiries for accommodations and lift tickets from the Lower Mainland," said Ballingall.

"This is obviously because of the fact that Whistler is closed. What we are enormously afraid of is if we stay open, people are going to travel that shouldn't be travelling, and just by the law of averages and numbers, COVID-19 and the P1 variant will be amongst those people.

"In order for them not to travel, we are going to turn off the resort so they don't have a reason to travel."

Ballingall says if Big White had stayed open, they would have been the only resort west of the Kootenays open after the Easter long weekend.

"We are getting calls to our 1-800 number, on our website, we can see where people are inquiring from. We can see that lift ticket sales are from the 604 area code.

"We made the decision that it is not worth staying open and these people showing up in our back yard. It puts everybody at risk."

Big White was originally scheduled to close for the season Sunday, April 11.

FYI Mt. Bachelor, Oregon is planning to stay open through May 30th if you're looking for a road trip (and can deal with the quarantine requirements).

Good to see this move, respect that. Who are all these citiot turds suddenly interested in skiing in April? WB is usually dead, and spring break is over isn’t it?
