He has done very well on the IFSA junior circuit. U12 NorAm champ, then lost a couple of seasons to COVID. He has to be the best skier on the circuit, but that doesn't mean he wins every time out. Lots goes into winning a comp, the venues are not like the terrain in his clips, and the backies are not allowed, so that takes away a bit of what can separate him from the rest.

Me too, Such a good run and the greek tragedy part adds to the Tabke lore IMO. Loved how he exercised the demons the following season in Japan.

How Smoothy’s run isn’t number one is beyond belief. The top half of that run is as good of skiing as anyone has ever skied anywhere.

Yes, I’ll take any excuse to watch that again. Inspirational.

Good to see Yu Sasaki back for some Kamikaze big airs.

I’d add Craig Murray and Ross Tester to Leo and Turdell as the top dogs.

I'm interested to see how the new format plays out.

Especially after the mid season cut, when riders will each get two runs (except Verbier)

The qualifier series that has the up and comers and the world tour competitors who didn't make the mid season cut should be bonkers as well. Hopefully some of that gets live streamed.

Unfortunately Yu blew his Achilles just a bit ago and is out for the season.

Super bummer about Sasaki - there was a great profile vid on him recently. Seems like an amazing guy!

    Saw this on FWT's site:

Joining the tour’s qualified riders and season Wildcards in Baqueira Beret will be event Wildcards Max Palm (ski men- SWE), Nuria Castan (snowboard women-ESP) and Pau Riba (snowboard men-ESP).
    https://www.freerideworldtour.com/ne...ards-announced

They report Ari Tricomi and Hank Bilous are also out due to injury. Bummer!

I don't see alto on the athlete list - has he retired from comp skiing? I think he just missed the cut IIRC

It's always amazing to me that these guys are flashing these lines. The 2 run format should prove to be very, very interesting.

Never having competed myself, I’d imagine that scouting the face from the bottom must be really hard. Getting a first run to check out the face then being ready to send in your second lap will be a huge change

Very hard to inspect that way. Now that there are years of comps on these faces though makes a big difference though. Of course it's changing conditions every year.. but still.

Depends if there is some disincentive for repeating the same line. I could see a reduction in line score perhaps.

I'm hoping that repeats are frowned upon and unique lines are rewarded.

Very much looking forward to a new venue as well.

On that note, does anyone know anything about the venue(s) at Baq? Any pics out there? Couldn't find any info on the interwebs.

Well it's definitely not as good as the venue at mammoth.

Snow should be good. They got a massive base and a solid refresh this week.

Lolol. I almost wrote something like "dickwaving about Amerikkka v. Yurp forbidden!"

Obviously, Mammoth is a way better ski area than Europe. Thanks for your agreement!
