Thread: Gripped in a cooley

His skiing is awesome. Noone is arguing that. But he changed his art from his skiing to something else.
Another thing to consider. How was he going to get back up if he couldn't reach the ski. Rapelling on the two sticks is a bit different from climbing back up on them, especially if he didn't have an ascender of some sort. Of course, they knew where the ski was because they had the drone that could have (and probably did) check out the line first.powdork.com - new and improved, with 20% more dork.

and sounded like the plan was to rap that choke in the first place
I didn't believe in reincarnation when I was your age either.

Who was flying that drone in the first place? What happened with his splitboard partner? Did he actually rap on the sticks or is there a fixed rap station? Is he developing his video CV for doing movie professional stunt work?

Gripped in a cooley
I’d drop into that line any day over the video of Mntlion in Banff.
I actually wouldn’t do either. But just saying. That line doesn’t scare me as much as that shit he did.

Geez, there's a lot to take in.
First of all, he's obviously a highly intelligent and talented person. Unbelievable skier too, and driven to push himself far. I'm guessing he'll dial it back as he ages and his relationship with his missus deepens, but he's very clearly a risk taker.
I know that he makes some questionable decisions, but after 2 1/2 years of everybody panicking about everything, and the western world generally smothered by safetyism, I found the style of it quite liberating. Also very nice that it's not all bro brah chest thumping, but letting your skiing do the talking.
Would love to see a Heitz/Anthamatten/Schirmer colab.
Lastly, how fcuken beautiful is Norway!

He's come a long way since the gripped in a cooley video. Of the three video series we watch I think these are my favorite.

Yeah I'm loving his channel. The Gripped in a Cooley was a little much, but seems like he has matured a bit since then. Doesn't hurt that he shreds.

He's definitely matured a lot the last few years. I've noticed a lot more talk about snow safety and decision making in his videos recently, whereas before they were solely about skiing big lines fast, with little talk of safety.
Or maybe his sponsors stepped in and asked him to set a better example. Either way, he's consistently putting out some of the best ski content on the internet.

I made fun of his Cooley video, but I've also become a huge fan of his stuff. Sick skiing and always a well thought out story.

I saw his gear video where he said he skis toes unlocked... but he did mention that there were a few times he locked them, and I think this run was one of them.
Impressive that he does it most of the time, either way.
And I agree he has matured but I still find his risk tolerance to be 1 or 2 orders of magnitude higher than mine.
