How wide is too wide (brakes )

I’ve got some g3 sendr 112s that need bindings compatible with Hoji pt boots. I didn’t realize that the Hoji boots aren’t compatible with my current beast 14s so I’m looking for a new binding, perhaps g3 ion 12. There’s some deals on 130mm brake ions. Will that be way to wide? Could I bend them in? Also if you’ve got ions/ atks In decent shape I’d be interested

Sounds like a recipe for kicking and stepping on brakes while skinning

Do the ion brakes do that thing where they narrow up when locked?

Not that much. Get the 115mm brake or go with the LT.

They're kind of prone to releasing in walk mode at the best of times too.

I have toed the ends of brakes in on rads and verts, Dynafit brakes stickout at an angle normaly so if you bend just before the paddles they acutlay stick mo straight downwards and in use the ends don't catch on anything

I Used a 130 wide brake on a lotus 120, so you get half the extra on each side so an extra 5mm on each side, with the ends toed in you don't catch on anything IME

I will look for a pict

I think they are both 130 wide brakes on a Lotus 120 and a Dynafit 108 wide Stoke

IME as long as the ends of the arms are tucked in nothing catches on them, the skis will
hit the bend that sticks out but it doenst seem to matter as long as nothing catches

the red Lotus 120 has Salomon guardian arms retro fitted into a dynafit Vertical

swapping arms in verts and rads was easy

I had a pair of alpine skis I mounted with pretty wide brakes.
Not sure how it happened, but I must have stepped in too close while hauling down some chopped up blue, and found I'd hooked the brake arms over each other.

Talk about forced, really parallel turns! It was panic inducing for a second. Got in a couple of good turns to check speed and managed unhook them.

I never changed them out, but never did that again either. [I think I sold them a year later, and it became someone else's problem.]

    You've been forewarned!

I want to put pivot 18s on my Legend Pro Riders, 105mm underfoot, should I go with the 95mm brake or 115mm?

After posting this, I was reading on here that the angle needed to bend the 95s made the ends of the plastic black arms stick out enough that they’d sometimes catch when carving in certain conditions. Whereas the 115s don’t do that.

Since the heel piece is mounted a bit further back from the center, I figured it’s about 106mm there, so 115 is only 4.5mm on each side, not much.

all in all, does is really matter?

It ^^ depends on if the ends catch on each other or not, I havent had the brakes hook on any thing after bending the ends inward on the 2 pictures above

some brakes don't want to be bent and some are pretty easy to bend, the salomon & dynafit brake arms were pretty easy ,

IME its best to bend brake arms in a vise but some guys do it with the brake still in the binding, I would worry about breaking something cuz they are so much plastic

I did a set of 7TM brakes using a large axe on a splitting stump

    You’re gonna die!

You can bend them in a bit if they seem too wide but just ski them you’ll be fine.

So I'm the only one who has correctly sized brakes but get my brakes caught on the opposite pants leg from it while skiing fast? Because i am very certain this is how I'm going to die. Dozens and dozens of times. My new look bindings seem to eliminate this problem compared tp Salomons, but holy shit it's disconcerting.

130 brakes on 112 skis seems like a dumb way to save money, but I guess we all ski differently and have different bindings.
