So you’re an electrician huh? Helping people and companies burn carbon as your career.

    Sweet post.

This one has been awesome, and it has a clamp-on lid to keep in the rocks and doubles as a carrying handle. No more smoke chasing you around the fire.

I’m comfortable with my non-judgmental carbon consumption and I love riding lifts. Thanks for keeping power going.

I assume you’ve disconnected power to your home already.

While the picture is extremely enticing, 48k btu is roughly 20% less than the going rate. But the unit looks extremely compact and portable.

I don't own one of these, but every one I've been around stinks like propane or NG.

Is that the norm, or do the burners on all the ones I've been around suck that badly at burning all the gas cleanly?
Some it's really overpowering; Like feel semi-nauseous from the odor.

yeah, never noticed a stink at all. And I've been around a ton of different ones. Maybe you have overly sensitive nostrils?

call me a raper of the environment, but when camping somewhere wood fires are not ok, these things rock.

Unit is light and portable and has a magnetic cover. Use it on my deck; been taking it to outdoor gatherings during COVID.

Friend has a silly model with built-in speakers and a “dancing flame” too.

I’ve got the model posted by the OP. We’ve been using it more and more on our #vanlife adventures, instead of bringing firewood. I can’t say I notice a lot of propane smell, but it sure is nice not to have everything stinking of campfire!

People have been DIYing those for decades. I guess someone has to monetize everything these days…

I wonder if it gets hot enough to incinerate fecal matter. That could be useful!

Definitely like the size for packing in the back of the truck. Much smaller than my current fire setup.

Yep totally, and the raft. in typical fashion though, i can't really see how many BTU this thing is putting out. Prolly the same 50-60k btu as all the others?

I’m not sure about the firebox.

But I found their faq entertaining.

I heard back from the guy at LavaBox, holy shit these things have some firepower!!

We were refining the burner last year and I think I forgot to add the new BTUs. The tabletop puts out 120,000 BTUs while the Krakatoa Firebreather puts out 200,000. Biggest in the industry!

I have the lavabox. Works well for raft trips, as designed. Particularly nice for rafting during fire bans. The "people will monetize anything" flak seems like an odd shot to take. Turns out a lot of commercial products are things that people DIY'd for a while.

Nice. Does it cool down pretty quick? Like, can you have a fire in the morning then put it on the raft? That’s one of our primary use cases.
