Unlikely I'll sit in my house with a mask on. Went outside and it didn't take long for a headache and watering eyes. Temp is staying cool with the lack of solar radiation.

Fire suppression tactics are a factor. Climate change equally or more of a factor. See Wildfire 2020 thread in Padded Room for good discussion
It's just a little slice of Paradise. A view of 3 Sisters (7-9 miles to SW) at 1030 from the Elk Farm/Cole Ranch on Hwy 242. (Cross post from Wildfire 2020 thread)

Watching the AQI climb is a poor fucking substitute for sitting at the monitor and checking on snowfall totals. 738 PPM in White Salmon last time I looked. Come on winter!

Sorry shorty but climate change is very real.
And yes the frequency of favorable fire weather will continue to rise.
But weather is not the determining factor when it comes to fire size. Fuel is.

That's not completely true. You can have all the fuel needed for a fire but without favorable weather parameters, no bueno.

Steep
instead of being an intentionally provocative asshole
how about sharing a bit about the proximity of fires in the eug/springfield zone?
are you in zone 1?
[this is not the climate change thread, but it’s at least the local OR thread]

that's not true in the slightest. you're right about fuels in that is plays a big part, but weather is the real driver of what a fire is actually going to do. low humidity, warm temps and the right wind make = bad. that's why you have red flag warnings just the ones that lead up to this event and before eagle creek fire.
