The Canadians are just pissed Microsoft names all their development products after Whistler lifts and bars. The village was built on Microsoft Seattle money.

many US plated vehicles in my neighbourhood, I've yet to accost any of them...I can be passive aggressive about them being long term residents without changing over their insurance and plates as required, however.

What if it is a Canadian who pre-COVID normally worked and lived in the US, had US plates (as they are required to have), but now that they are working from home, decided to move back to their parents place in Canada? Everyone assumes that a US plate means the person is there illegally. People don't often lie to border guards to get into countries. The consequences are very high (permanent ban).

Uhm... wut? People lie to the border guys all the time. Have you never watched the tv show?
When Canada legalized, the CBP started asking people with BC plates if they had ever used mj. (fact)
Apparently if they answered in the affirmative, they were denied entry. (hearsay)
Some of them said, "no sir. not even once." which was a lie. (fact)

Lie about a thing that they could not easily be caught on is one thing, but lying about the reason to enter a country is a whole different thing. When a person tries to get permanent resident card or permanent resident in US is trying to become a citizen, they are asked if they have ever lied to an immigration official. The USCIS will look at that person's entire immigration file to see if they can catch them on a very old lie, no matter how minimal the lie, and then deny them citizenship and then possibly deport them. Very ballsy to lie to an immigration official. You are risking getting permanently red flagged. It's also a crime. Sure, people do it. But I find it hard to believe well to do Vancouver/Bellingham folk are routinely lying just to cross back and forth.

Canada
You f-ing Canadians can’t even race pigeons correctly.
This completely tame and very friendly d00d showed up at my Mom’s neighbor, lost from some Canadian pigeon race. Refused to go back home to Canada. Apparently it enjoyed #Wisconsinlakelife. Border closed so no way to cage it and drive it home. Finally some Good Samaritan drove it to Detroit and it flew across the river.

I thought the tv show reference would indicate my level of seriousness.
You are, of course, correct. There are lies, white lies, and statistics.

so I have been quoting a figure of >80% of canadians polled being against the border openning, somebody asked for an update thinking it can't get worse/bogus number so the latest poll is up to 90% and this artical lays out all the reasons,
If its any consolation the author stays professional & does not use the term " batshit crazy "

" Why many Canadians support the Canada-U.S. border closure, despite the costs
A new poll found 90 per cent of respondents supported keeping the border closed to Americans "
https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/alu...deau-1.5724391
and in other news Canada is about to enact a total of 3.6 billion tit-for-tat tarrifs in key republican staes against the USA to retaliate which means your can of beer or sft will cost more thanks to trump
start a trade war in the middle of all this ... great neighbors ehLast edited by XXX-er; 09-15-2020 at 09:11 AM.

some really nice Victorians badly vandalized my dad’s truck with Texas plates. Smashed windshield, stole license plates and graffiti’d it. He has been here for almost 3 months visiting family and helping us out. My wife and I just had a baby - his first grandchild and we just moved. He did his 2 week quarantine. He is Canadian and can’t even vote for or against Trump.

"There's a lot of reasons why everyone in the world should be concerned about the way that this pandemic has been addressed in the United States," said Hoffman.
Diodati of Niagara Falls predicts Canada won't entertain discussions over reopening the Canada-U.S. border until after the U.S. election, when perhaps politics is no longer muddying the waters.
"We call this silly season when there's an election," he said. "Let's let the Americans get through their election process ... and then we're going to probably have more meaningful dialogue."

Tariffs, and being anti-free trade is more of far left political move, than a far right. If Bernie Sanders got the Democrat nomination, and became president, he would tariff the living shit out of Canada. It is the one thing that Bernie Sanders and Trump agree on. Personally, I'm more of a free trade guy. But I don't understand why Canadians brag about how far left they are politically but then get upset by tariffs. Aren't far left people suppose to block all international trade and keep the jobs in house? See the World Trade Organization riots in Seattle in 1999.
