Maybe not *quite* a full pound, but pretty darn close.

I figure the 38 will add just under a pound, 1/4-1/2 a pound for an insert, and about a 1/4 pound for the DD (2.4 vs. 2.6 exo+ that’s on there). I am also getting a much lighter stem when I pick the right size.

    A 38 is about 300g more than a 36. So right around 2/3 lb.

I think you're gonna have to drill some speed holes to stay under 30.

On a bike with a Fox 38, do you really want it to be under 30 lbs? A bike like that is made to be ridden hard.

Yup. Big part of my reasoning to pick up a new trance X was talk of a worse shortage next spring. Normally I'd never buy a bike in October.

Same (not a Trance). I never thought "global supply chain" would come up in a new bike plea to the wife.
Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.

I'm hoping we get the wife's EVO before Thanksgiving, or even Xmas. When I put down my deposit three weeks ago the shop monkey said they had one in her size/color "inbound," which I took to mean had shipped from Specialized. Called yesterday to get a status update and it was clarified that they have ordered one in that size/color, but it hasn't shipped from Specialized and it was unknown when exactly that would happen. Could be worse I guess.

Fair point, this is not my mellow trails bike. However, i do luke a decent riding weight. With the frame bag, saddle bag, wolftooth encase tools, pump, and 28 oz water bottle, it wont be all that light. If it is unbalanced I will probably put on a DH casing. I will have two wheelsets for this, though, a burly one and a light one.

I’ve been playing phone tag with my Jensen rep for over a week to just confirm he put the order in. Wife’s med Ripley GX with Ibis S28 upgrade. I was forewarned it would be an April ETA, but the lack of confirmation from Ibis’ biggest retailer is annoying.

The supply chain is so messed up. Builders are having trouble securing build kits from SRAM and Shimano, let alone smaller parts suppliers.

The new matte black Chris king parts with gold text is super hot. Too bad I don't buy those parts anymore as they have no benefit on a modern mountain bike.

Now my gravel bike.... need those CK parts

To be fair, the colors are usually better than Santa Cruz.
It makes perfect sense...until you think about it.

I suspect there's logic behind the madness, but I'm too dumb to see it.

Greasy test run with the new ride.
Too icy/greasy to tell much, but you can feel the higher anti squat, pedals better than the previous instinct, was really good on rocky ups. It actually feels a little shorter even though the reach #’s are longer, probably due to the STA. Wheelies easier than the ’18 Altitude. (‘20 Instinct was better) Bummed it only has R and C, I will probably get a factory X2 to replace it In order to get HSC/LSC-HSR/LSR...
Which made me think that I *might* get a 230 x 65 replacement, giving it a bit more travel (if I can get the right tune)

I really only got it dirty today, but I already love it.
So my shorts are completely snug.

I think you can have Dirt Labs replace the R & C clickers with the Factory ones. I've heard of people doing that before on the Performance version that comes on some YTs.

Hunh, that would be cool. I’ll look up the Fox part numbers.
But I am still interested in a 5mm extension...

Finally finished building the Druid... just picked it up from the shop this afternoon. Maiden voyage is tomorrow, we'll see how this thing rides.

One thing I'm a little concerned about is the spring weight for the CC Inline - I went with a 450lb vs 400lb since I was in-between, and they didn't have the 400lb in stock. So I may end up going with a lighter spring eventually if it feels too stiff. Otherwise, it feels pretty dialed from just riding around the neighborhood.

That looks like a nice ride. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it after you've spent some time in the saddle.

Not technically a 2021 bike but absolutely loving my Revel Rascal. Hands down best bike I’ve owned. I’ll wake up in the middle of the night and want to go ride.
