bummer xpost from skiing forum- RIP skiing-in-jackson

Gang, we recently learned tragic, terrible news that Stephen aka Skiing-in-Jackson was killed in Iowa on July 31st while riding his bike across the country (I believe he was on his way back home)
We don't have much info on the crash but sounds like he and the driver were both going the same direction. Not sure if he was solo or with family

He's been a longtime forum member - quiet but one of the best. Many know him from solving their toughest boot issues through his bootshop in the basement of the HostelX. https://skidcouture.com/

He embodied such a good person (was active in the community, once ran for mayor of Jackson) Humble, giving, positive
Embodied the classic ski bum- skied everyday- and not just him but also his wife and 4 kids! I think they were homeschooled or at least a couple of them and part of their education was skiing and outdoor pursuits (his daughter hiked the AT alone at like age 17 or 18) badass awesome humble family
Super, super loss and I can't imagine what his family is going through. they were an especially close family.

I have not seen much local coverage of this and have not seen a gofundme or anything yet. I only knew them through skiing and seeing them around town but will keep you all posted and other friends and JH folks pls keep up posted as he was beloved

    RIP maggot

He was the best bootfitter I ever had. Solid guy. Incredibly nice. I'm really sad that I didn't get down there to JH to see him after I moved to Big Sky. Had always meant to.

Prayers for his family. If there is ANYTHING we can all do for them, please let us know. You'll be missed, Stephen.

That is a real bummer. Met him once at his shop in the basement. He was with a customer, so couldn't hang out. Seemed like a very chill, content person. No other way to describe him. Had an aura of having his shit together and being very happy with his life. I am pretty sure he had no regrets. RIP.

I posted randomly about heading out to JH for a trip with my buddies. He sent me a PM, said congrats on the trip, reach out to him when I get there if i need anything. Never really interacted with him on the forum and he was kind enough to throw that out there to a complete stranger.

Never took him up on it...

    RIP

He was a great guy I had met at Jackson and really had a great heart to help people since he did not know me at all. RIP

I need to go to Utah.
    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

Thanks BCSAR and POWMOW Ski Patrol for rescues

Same here, and Mrs C and I stopped by his shop at the Hostel on the trip to say hi. Only time I met Stephen, but like others said, he seemed laid back, comfortable, and happy.

Condolences to his family and all who knew him.

I've concluded that DJSapp was never DJSapp, and Not DJSapp is also not DJSapp, so that means he's telling the truth now and he was lying before.

Remember he responded to something about how he'd just packed up the family in a van and lived in the wal mart parking lot for a while to make the dream happen / move to jackson. Hardcorre.
