Bad deal. I peruse the Jackson/Teton thread from up here in Montana and he seemed like the real deal and full of positivity. RIP

Just to share my one anecdote about Stephen. In a thread here about the famous Coombs poster, I made some comment about wanting one, and out of the blue with no previous contact history the guy PMs me saying he sees them every now and then at yard sales in JH and that he’d pick one up for me the next time he saw one. How cool was that?

Yeah, same thing here. He saw my post about heading to the Village and reached out right away. Offering to use his shop to ship my skis to and hopefully make turns. Damn, such a nice guy having never met irl. This hurts. Faak

I met him only twice for a total of a few hours when I went in to get my boots dialed. in just those two brief encounters, I could already tell that he was probably one of the nicest, most sincere people I'd ever met. seriously, the guy just radiated positive energy. he could immediately connect with a total stranger and treat them like an old friend, and we had a great conversation about all sorts of things while he worked his magic. his wife was down in the shop when I came back to grab my shoes, and he introduced us, and she was just the same. I feel terrible for her and his kids and his close friends, and it just sucks for the skiing community that he's not around anymore. clearly a very special man.

and he absolutely dialed my boots.

This is so unbearably sad. I first met Stephen more than 15 years ago when he fitted my daughters for boots at Hoback Sports. Some people are so full of life that you only need to meet them once and they stay with you forever. He could have been the prototype for that.

Ugh. As hard as times are these days, maintain perspective.

Will keep an eye here to see if there is anything we can do as a collective for Stephen’s family. Can’t imagine what they are going through.
