Maybe it's just the midwestern in me, but never once have I thought "hey guys" was gender specific.
I still call it The Jake.

Try saying, "Hey gals!" to a bunch of your male co-workers and see how it goes. Alternately, try it in mixed company. Please report back.

How about, "Hey, I don't give a flying fuck what genitals you have, but you better listen up."

Several times on a conference call today the predominantly female group was addressed as “hey guys” or “guys” by the female partner leading the call.

Pretty sure no one thought twice about it but I’ll ask around tomorrow for ya.

Also, it’s never been “hey gals” so not sure what your point is there. Everyone knows if you want to insult a group of guys you address them as ladies.

Is "hey guys" better or worse than "hello, ladies?"

Depends. Are you MCA, Mike D, or Ad-Rock?

More sarcasm than anything. All my lady friends say, "hey guys" all the time. But it would still be an interesting experiment.

I'm skinny and fair-skinned enough that everyone thinks I'm white (including all the racists that KQ insists don't exist in the PNW, but who love to say horrible things to me about Latinos and Blacks), but that's where the similarities end.
