Yep. And when that Gordon Fucking Ramsey show comes on, I yell at the tv that he’s no Bourdain. I’m still not over him

I agree and I have a soft spot in my hearts for true nerds like Rick. but do wish he would expand beyond Europe.

I believe he did slightly with the Middle East.
BTW - I highly recommend watching his university speeches. He does not hold back on his viewpoint that America should not be the world's police (morally and literally).

Behind Rick Steves and A. Bourdain, the Top Gear/The Grand Tour travel specials typically had a great blend of travel cinematography, off the beaten path adventure, car porn, and straight up buffoonery. James May's Our Man in Japan was pretty entertaining as well.
I've concluded that DJSapp was never DJSapp, and Not DJSapp is also not DJSapp, so that means he's telling the truth now and he was lying before.

On Amazon's Prime Video....I enjoyed "Walking Through History" (British history) and "Travels by Narrowboat" (guy s l o w l y cruising England's canals) is good background noise prior to going to sleep.

Chef's Table on Netflix is a nice supplement to Bourdain when they leave the country. Nice photography.

The BBC2’s Rough Guide to The World and the Lonely Planet / Global Trekker series were all pretty good. Ian Wright’s episodes were always interesting to watch.

Is that show still on television? Wow, I had a girlfriend in college who liked that show, but assumed it had been off the air for 5+ years at this point. That guy looked like a dried out piece of shoe leather a decade ago.

    interesting thanks. will check out.
not to surprising though. progressive guy. my little sister went to college with his son (in Rome) Now that was a graduation I didn't mind attending- all the events in insane off the beaten path venues you'd never get to see otherwise. but now I'm just trying to make benny jealous :P

I also tried that "Travel the world with David Chang" travel/ eating show on Netflix where he takes a celebrity along with him.
It was amusing enough to recommend, but only ok

Rick has gone quite Middle East, but he has added Morocco and Russia and Baltics.

PSA that all his guide books are on sale for 5 doller right now.

Honestly I don't know, they're probably reruns. I usually watch a few minutes if I come across it but I'm not positive I've ever watched a whole episode.

I watched part of the first episode. Wasn't terrible, but wasn't particularly interesting unless you're a big fan of his. Then I did some googling and it seems like his buddy/partner hawks some very questionable science in later episodes.

If Bill Bryson ever makes a travel show, I'll vote for that.

Loved the episode in Nepal where the local market "dentist" wants to drill a cavity using a piece of shit rotozip.
