Dead hens don't lay eggs 2Funky, talking about the Canada's here. Covered up in bluebills today. Dog likes it when they fall on the ice and she doesn't have to swim and subsequently turn into an ice cube. Not the mallards we were hoping for. Ton of green wings still around.

You lost me on your first sentence. I don’t shoot many divers anymore, unless a nice Can or Redhead shows up. Haven’t seen teal in a while here. My buddy did let some pintails slide on his side the other day, if I would have known I would have killed them, I even called what they were and where, feck. He instead shot a mallard on my side, .

Yep, the fatties are hitting the river but the river is locking up, you can walk down the middle of it on 4 inches of ice in parts. Had a hell of a year so happy to hang it up, play with the pup, and ski

Mid winter on the provo can be so damned fun with some midges. Hit up noseeumfly.com and get his midges, run a 22-24 behind a 18 mothershucker and light them up.

What do you make with the hides after tanning? Got anything you can show us? Just curious.

One thing I did with my deer this year is rather than grind the burger with 10% beef fat as I usually do, I did it with 15% pork fat. Wow, it's really rich and good. I'm a convert. This is a tip I read about in the Montana Outdoors wild-game recipe column.

Yea all I've ever made are furs and skins to drape on the bed or hang on the wall. Mostly just for my cave.
Ms Middle has done a few art projects. I made a few fur-insulated coffee mug koozies once, can't find a pic of that but it was fun.
Haven't figured out how to 'cure' it to make useable gloves or anything cool yet. These three are going to be hairless tans like the one on the left in the pic. Prob just hang on the wall, remember the hunt. Also started dabbling in euro mounts last year - maybe my retirement gig will be taxidermy, if I ever actually get it figured out.

Yes!! - that's my exact ratio. Same % with elk FTW.
I trade with a local pork guy, so I know I'm getting good stuff. Bambiballs, burgers, elkurritos, meat sauce ... i'm drooling.
