My son graduates in May. I'm sure that it will be virtual. His major is Music and The Entertainment Business and his minors are Jazz Piano and Busness Law. Other than two ensembles (R&B and Jazz) all of his classes are on-line. Protocols seem the same. Bi-weekly COVID test, and daily on-line symptom checklist.
He wants to spend the summer in Greece. I just don't know...“How does it feel to be the greatest guitarist in the world? I don’t know, go ask Rory Gallagher”. — Jimi Hendrix

Kid #1 is set to graduate this spring, he's in a house with 5 total and 4 of 5 had the 'rona in March. Last year and a half of collge being remote sucks balls but he's dealing with it. Kid #2 is a junior and she spent the first semester in Colorado living with 3 other kids from school remot e classes and heading back to on campus housing outside Boston for the second semester for remote learning. She was suppose to study abroad this year and obviously that didn't happen but what you gonna do !

Both kids went back to Montana State a couple weeks back. Dunno how "campus life" is going, but they seem to be getting quite a bit of skiing in...

My (twin) daughters are supposed to graduate in May, the semester starts next week. It looks like it's all online and they're bummed. I think they're really tired of being with us 24/7 and having nothing but online contact with people their age.

Darling daughter has been back at her bucolic tree lined campus since last week. Winter indoor track was cancelled so she's bummed, their team spring break trip very likely won't happen either so that's double bummer.
She's always been very focused on athletics so skiing has been out since 9th grade (afraid of injuries), so since winter season was cancelled this year I got her some skis and boots with the hopes that she'd get back into it. She hit BB with her friends a few times while here and has already hit the local hill back there and now wants a season pass to Sugarbush for her birthday present. So that's a little bit of good.

Thing#1 is still super pissed off that her entire 4th year is virtual, graduation from UNB Fredericton will be virtual. She's hoping to get into their 11mo Bachelor of Ed program for fall. That's going to be interesting because it has in person teaching practicums for all marking periods.
Thing#2 goes back to UVM on the 31st. He can't wait to be away from us again.

Oh yeah, and the boy just finished his HS credits up in Idaho. That's no small feat, he was one of the kids that got a 3 AM wake up call from a couple of big dudes for a trip down to Utah a couple years ago. He's now started some college classes and lo and behold he kinda likes it.

Well how's this for a kick in the pants. My daughters are graduating in May and trying to make some progress with getting into grad school for next fall but they keep getting shut down because professors don't reply to recommendation letter requests and the app deadlines are passing with those requests unfilled. There's no in person classes so the profs aren't even on campus to talk to. They had a few lined up but they just up and retired over the holidays and disappeared, shut their school emails down and left. Can you imagine not being able to get into schools because you can't get letters from the right people... The one that has been dreaming of being a teacher for ten years is getting nervous that that might be off the table for a while if she can't get that masters.

Vibes dude....we’re going through the same stuff...the stress is really taking it’s toll on kids and us/parents.

I think the meltdown is coming (too) soon. Ya know, lifelong dream and all that getting blown away because of Covid and they're identical twins so one's pain is the others also especially with us all having been cooped up together for 11 months straight.

Lifelong dream "delayed" is what I'd say. "Not over." After an appropriate amount of her throwing stuffed animals in her room and crying. Good luck dad.

Yeah it just won't be the expected path to get there. I guess the other way is to probably get to work for a few years and build yourself up that way so the grad schools will talk to you.

i'm sorry to hear that, gravity. what a shitty situation all around. really kinda selfish on the part of some of the profs it sounds.

I get your pain. Just an older mag saying the kid will be fine. Celebrating our 50th with a party next year on our 51st I hope.

Seems the kids at the University of Manchester have had quite enough of this malarkey:

COVID and the college student
I’m a little surprised as I’m seeing a few of the UVM students returning and not taking mask wearing as seriously as they did in the Fall. It’s really only been a handful, but the undergrads were leading the way in making sure they were masked up last semester.
My daughter returned to Denver and has been mostly hanging with her 4 housemates. 5 co-ed’s quarantined in a house = drama galore. 2 online classes and 2 in person.
She has been out skiing at WP a few times, so at least there is some outlet in her life.
