Most D1 programs have you sign a contract stating you won't participate in quite a few activities and skiing is usually toward the top of that list. Unless op is a high end high school player with physical traits to back it up he's not walking on at any D1 program , even if it's "only" Montana State University in the Big Sky Conference.

^^ fantastic news man. you will indeed have a blast.
walked on to a D1 soccer team as a freshman and got a scholarship. never had to sign anything about not participating in any specific activities but again, it was a while back. did have to keep a close eye out for the start date of the conference tournament and the ncaa's so we could pass the annual drug test : )
agree with norseman about focusing on just a few activities. fall was always a bitch with soccer, the practices, travel and time it consumed in general. plus, when you were at home, you were spent all the time when its time to get into to your school work. was always making up for it each spring in terms of GPA/credits.
you'll do just fine and enjoy!

Darling daughter's final conference season is cancelled. Her college sports career is over which is sad but now the campus is having an outbreak. Sounds like a lot of athletes ramped up the partying since all spring sports are over and things started getting lax and now 122 students now have the 'rona.
Not a great start to spring.

COVID and the college student
Sorry to hear that...vibes. It’s just very sad what this past year has done to students of all ages.....but especially college kids and the “best” 4 years of their lives.
I’ve got 2 student athletes at UVM...and I believe they are close to their breaking point.....a year full of 3x a week of negative tests....and still not be able to go to class or even hang out with other teammates/friends in a dorm room...without the threat of suspension/expulsion. The restrictions on campus are relentless....and it seems they may never let up....there is no sign of hope....Last edited by BC.; 03-01-2021 at 10:35 PM.

As our local HS students begin to make their college choices for next year.....there is an interesting trend here in our area.
In the past, the majority of students/athletes in our area have chosen to stay relatively close....whether it be our PA state schools, Penn State, Bucknell, Lehigh, Lafayette, other Patriot League schools, the small privates, or other schools in the NE.
This spring, we are seeing a huge trend of students choosing to go to school in the South. I’m assuming families/students see that “life in the South” and “on campus” at these schools/universities is much more appealing than the lockdowns that are still prevalent in the NE.......or they want better weather? It’s obvious they want out of the NE.
It’s interesting to hear all these kids headed to FL, GA, SC, AL....lol. Hope it works for them...we wish them luck.

Man, that sucks. Honestly if my kids were finishing up HS, I'd probably be pushing them to blow off Uni for a few years until things return to normal. Would be stoked for them to pursue a trade or do some extensive volunteer work.
I visited one of our local universities few weeks back to poach their library to do some research. School I went to for a while ages ago so I know my way around at least. Anyway, the library was still mostly closed off and the campus is a freaking ghost town. Was a very depressing scene. I'm sorry, but I am NOT willing to shell out $$$ for my kids to have zoom classes or online courses they can knock out for a fraction the price at community colleges. Shit, for less than a year of college for two kids, we could probably blow off everything altogether for a year as a family and go on a rad sailing trip or something. Get the kids some good life experiences before entering the realities of "adult life."

FB is Full Time. I knew a kid who walked away from a spot on an Ivy LAX team because he wanted a degree and some college life. Joined the Rugby Club because they kept a keg near the bench. Another young man I know opted for the cox position on the Gonzaga women's rowing team to get his college sports fix. Explore your options if the FB walk on try doesn't get you into the 2 a days and the weight room.

I knew people (New Englanders) who played club lax at MSU. It was pretty mellow, less competitive than hs for most of them. But they enjoyed throwing around.
I dabbled in club ultimate as an undergrad at a small school in CA and it was fun. It probably helped to put the brakes on the enfattening that happened with my departure from varsity sports.

I wish UVM would hurry up and require teh covid-19 vaccine to come back in the fall. Thing #2 is digging his heals in.

My son is graduating on the 14th. Pretty stoked. Hard Rock Stadium. 4 tix/grad. Staggered graduation. I think that in addition to the School of Music, he walks with School of Business and Communications. Outdoor graduations in MIA.... It's going to be hot, but glad that it is outdoors with limited seating. Also, proud that he was able to get it done in 4 years, even if the last year and a half was strange.

A few more hours and it's over, graduation is today. My daughters felt a ton of relief but no joy in sending in the last final of their 20 year career as students with a simple click of the return key. For this whole final semester they only had a few classes that were even Zoom, most were just emails and online work. At least the graduation ceremony is in person but it doesn't sound like it's going to be much fun with all the procedures and precautions.
