Thanks for posting this. I learned a lot, and reconfirmed my continuing use of tubes, for now.

What are these ‘tubes’ of which you speak?

Real question. Is there a tandem road tubeless rim out there w 40 spoke holes? That would be the shit.

I'm going on 7 years and multiple version Schwalbe Pro Ones on Shimano tubeless rims without a flat.
I've picked out some good pieces of glass and even construction stables out of my tires that I know would have killed a tube, and I know I've smashed a few potholes that would have pinch flatted tubes.
The World Tour Pro mechanics use a little bit of Loctite 4902 for any small cuts they find on their tires. 4902 is an instant cure, clear cyanoacrylate adhesive, that is highly flexible. (flexibility is not a a typical property for cyanoacrylate adhesives)
BUT it's not cheap. $50+ for 0.7 oz. (20g). I'll been waiting to slip it into a U-Line or commercial chemical order that someone else is paying for, but have not got one yet.

Would the 4902 be a practical substitute for tire plugs? How long is it good for after you open the bottle?

I'm just impressed that the dumpster fire that is bike radar actually produced something with worthwhile information.
