I knew of an Edwin who had a running battle with teachers who would cross out his full name and replace it with "Edward".

That said, we gave our kids totally unique first names with the theme of mountain water features neither of us had ever heard used as names. Yeah, yeah, so twirly, twirly.

Unique names partition the literate from the not so literate, especially our last name.

Ward could be his middle name. Leaves the options open.

That guy just earned a nickname.
    Absolutely.

    Regardless, Dickhead also fits.

Name you kid the long-name so they can choose to be a William, Will, Bill, or Billy. You’re going to call them Shitdick anyway.
But if you do decide to go for the shortened version you can't just decide later you want to be known only by the long form, e.g. everyone knows you as Charlie, but suddenly you insist being called Charles. That's a douche move.

Up here some parents named their child Rocky Rambo [Wei Nam Kam] because they were Stallone fans and wanted a tough kid.

He grew up to be an axe murder hacking two random people to death.

The court heard that Kam was obsessed with violent video games, including testimony from clinical psychologist Dr. Edward Shen, who said he may have been in a “gaming consciousness.”

Kam’s defence pushed the theory that the accused thought he was in one of those video games at the time of the killings.

My youngest daughter's name is Grace but I call her Goo because she's 5 months old...and is a pile of goo. The wife is worried that this will stick (no pun intended) and would be a very unfortunate nickname during high school. Thoughts?

I think it's sort of funny that "Eddie" is a riff on his last name: Edwards. His first name is Michael.

She shouldn't worry. I don't think Doo Doo Brown stuck. I quit using that at least a couple weeks ago.

I wanted to name my son Pagan but my wife demurred. It's okay, it turned out he is one anyways.
