How the effective R is a Whac-A-Mole for the govt, a timeline video of the outbreaks by region of Chile

Lately the worst hit areas are the north. The south and some comunas of the Central zone are coming out of quarantine.

    Updating internal travel mishaps.

A small group of U students went to La Parva for the night, basically to party, and when one went out to the car after the curfew (22:00), he was apprehended by the police who issued 3 tickets: for residing in a second residence (prohibited); being out during curfew; and not having a permit to travel. Fines range from US$300 to $2,000, and much more for covid-positives or suspects, including jail time.

A recently recovered cancer patient drove to the coast to stay with her cousin, and was turned back at each of the three different routes to get there.

Some people get around without much trouble, bending/breaking/complying the rules, but not many.

Been some puffing coming down lately, 3 of the culprits are:

Ski Chile 2020, one rider down

    Boohoo

La Catedral del Powder has no tracks

Antillanca says stay away (National Park=closed)

    La Parva says.

“Les recordamos que nos encontramos en fase de transición y aunque está permitido que visites la montaña por el día, La Parva todavía se encuentra cerrada Cuidémonos y evitemos accidentes

Maybe the Olympic team will get to train, but nobody else.

Finally, the protocols for opening ski areas has been published, 36 pages in Spanish

    https://www.sernatur.cl/wp-content/u...ros-de-Ski.pdf

Supposedly, the ski areas will communicate their particular opening rules in the next few days and open sometime next week. Probably starting with the Olympic team in El Colorado and seasons pass holders elsewhere.

As mentioned way back in this thread, ACESKI was aiming for August 18 to open. It has now come to pass, at least in La Parva

    https://www.facebook.com/SkILaParva/...892947/?type=3

Seasons pass and pre-season ticket purchasers only.

Colorado has a webinar on today 19:00 about their opening at www.elcolorado.cl, where they have published their protocols.

Seems Valle Nevado will not open.

Even if only 10cm have fallen since early July, and the runs are probably hard with the off piste weathered, the hoards will likely be out.

La Parva is stoking with this snowy shot of upper Manantiales

But take note that this may be as close as you actually get

This is the police control point last Thursday where all your info is taken and you are asked to show your chains. I was in it for over an hour. I made it thru without chains as I argued they were not necessary (no snow on the road anywhere), and I was willing to risk a fine in Farellones where supposedly checking. All so my grandkids could ride their sleds for a day

Aceski promo video for 2020 pandemic, 15,000 families depend on ski areas opening... Looks like they are going hungry for the most part.

It looks like Portillo has no announcements to make

    La Parva today

The minimum cost to ski, a 10 day high season ticket package, costs $400-$500. Weekends closed. Just rich kids and poor souls that bought passes will be using the lifts. This, to comply with the ski area days-open “guarantee”, and not give special discounts next year.

Colorado is making snow and opens tomorrow.

One must go for the day (no overnight stays), and each time fill in a COVID declaration form. Tickets in use are limited, initially perhaps as low as 200 (not clear to me).

As gunky as that looks, the runs are in pretty good shape I hear. Got my ticket 4 days ahead to be sure of a cupo, 15% Visa discount only (50% was sold out). Supposed to snow tuesday, so I bought for Wed, como no?

    Freaky news

    https://www.latercera.com/la-tercera...AB5SJLECDWHK4/

The Seremi de Salud de la Región Metropolitana has already started 15 health checks on non-habitual residents of the Andean region who were caught spending the night in "refugios" in the area. The fines, detailed from the regional authority, can range from $ 2 million to $ 50 million, in the most serious cases.
From the municipality of Lo Barnechea, its mayor, Cristóbal Lira, anticipates that in the coming days at kilometer 11, where the police control is located, a PCR test sampling point will be installed to test all who go up to the sector mountain range of the commune.
    Better go extra early Wednesday....

Zipped thru Carabineros after a brief chat, and ran into snow on curva 5 (of 40).

    Arriving to Farellones

Snow showers are now below LP.

First car tracks, La Parva, and Venus.

10-20 cm was enough for a pow day

With limited everything, no problem finding space. Funky base tho, lots of scritch scratch on old hard drifted crap. Certainly got the damn thing out of my system.

I had the pleasure of inaugurating that line.

Got a last ride up with a windy ruffling

And a last run out before it socked in again.

    Today the hoards hit LP

Temp checks at the bottom, herding to maintain lines spaced but not blocking runs, quads for two only,. 2 of 4 chairs not running. One run per lift groomed. Masks required. I hated it, I use glasses under goggles and the fogging was rude in lift lines. Agglomerations were perhaps a bit too pervasive. Top of Las Águilas

You foreigners may miss the ski season in Chile, but I see this being offered for December

Villarica & Lanin mountaineering expedition with total solar eclipse on December 14, 2020, in the lake district of Chile.
    https://www.chilemontana.com/climbin...020-expedition

    Great time of year.
