This guy in Oregon survived the fires by spending a night on a rock in the middle of a river with a patio chair and a can of beer he found on the riverbank. "Hell yeah, I drank it." Talk about cool under fire.

We got a touch of rain overnight. Didn’t reduce the smoke level though - AQI=415
More showers supposed to come today

I've entered the "Bargaining" stage of smoke related depression. Late last week it was "if we could just get to moderate air quality." Today it's "I'll settle for unhealthy air." Tomorrow I may just damn the torpedos and throw all the windows open.
Currently sitting at 262. At least it's not 300!“When you see something that is not right, not just, not fair, you have a moral obligation to say something. To do something." Rep. John Lewis

I finally broke down and swam outside on Wednesday because the AQI dipped below 200. It felt fine, but I kept it pretty short (about 40 minutes) and at a moderate pace.

The near level smoke forecast has been flawed the last week. But the vertically integraded gives a good idea of where the smoke is heading. Lastest from 11 pm Saturday night. Finally some relief for the PNW, particularly west of the Cascades. Spotty smoke lingering east and of course, the fires in Oregon still smoldering and supplying fresh smoke

It's not always people pets and livestock being evacuated:

Hats off to the ODFW cavalry! Yesterday, 700 adult spring Chinook and summer steelhead were successfully evacuated out of the Rock Creek Fish Hatchery and transported to Coles River hatchery for spawning/hatching. It was incredible to see these folks execute the mission during an active fire situation (a fire flared up on-site while they were there).
