Fire started on the Colville reservation last night and jumped the Columbia River, think about that for a few minutes. The fire is burning uncontrolled driven south by fierce NE winds through Douglas and now Grant counties. This looks bad, the town of Mansfield is entirely cut off by the fire, surrounded. Add to the smoke massive dust plumes and it’s looking apocalyptic. Visibility is decreasing in Wenatchee and I can smell smoke. Wind is howling.

Yeah, saw it had jumped the mighty Columbia. Amazing.
Emergency evac notice just issued for Douglas Co.
#ColdSpringsCanyonPearlHillFireUpdate: Level 3 Evacuation Notices issued for Mansfield. All routes out of town are unsafe for use due to extreme visibility conditions. Residents asked to securely shelter in place if possible or use emergency shelter at the Mansfield School gym.“When you see something that is not right, not just, not fair, you have a moral obligation to say something. Would be tough to find them. Also, I've never seen this one - all ignition sources banned. Usually they let you use a backpacking stove:
As of 5PM on Monday, Sept. 7, 2020, until further notice:
The use of ANY ignition source is prohibited on all National Forest System lands (campfires, gas stoves, lanterns, etc.) throughout California.
ALL developed camprounds and day-use sites are temporarily closed.
Tried to find the order to see if they distinguish between gas stoves and propane stoves. Odd they don't mention cigarettes/lighters/matches as ignition sources.

Apparently the whole Kaiser/Florence/Edison area was/is under evacuation order (PCT/JMT remain open).

Campers lower down were told to drop their RV trailers and take a dirt road.

Seriously, I couldn’t think of a better place to ride it out. My FB fire bro’s and I have been shaking heads and posting our stories of waiting it out in far worse places. But I guess I understand being worried if this is your first fire. Still, I would have passed on the evac helicopter ride.

We were planning on going to the Florence/Edison area this holiday weekend, but opted against the idea because we figured it would be a worse 3-day weekend shitshow than usual due to people escaping 110 degree valley temps (what with that one-lane road and somewhat limited dispersed camping options now that that whole concept has gone totally mainstream).
Anyway, VVR just reported that they're evacuating the place today, with a few of the 50 people remaining there backpacking back out onto the smoky JMT, and the rest being caravaned out with sheriff escort. I assume that it's the same deal at Mono HS and Florence; I'm guessing that some people will remain tending Muir Trail Ranch.
This sucks for the backpackers out there, but they should be pretty well equipped to suffer through bad smoke for the day or two that it takes them to get to the East Side trailhead of their preference (unless they want to tough it out for the full length of their current food supply to their intended destination). And with probably about half of the groups out there having an inReach with them, I'm sure everyone knows what's up by now, not to try to exit via Florence or Edison, etc. As for the no-stove rule, it's not so much aimed at high country backpackers, who, let's face it, are not a threat to anything; it's more about discouraging the guys from setting up a two-burner and then leaving it unattended while dispersed-camping on a thick bed of dead pine needles.

Smoke has arrived over the pass from the east side. There goes the air.
A few people feel the rain. Most people just get wet.
