Just starting to rain here - lots of thunder but too much smoke to discern lightning

AQI down to 200. Now only Very Unhealthy instead of hazardous!

FEMA has a new-ish post fire hazard mitigation program which can include large scale soil stabilization and debris flow mitigation, but with a local match (and other stipulations). Hopefully areas of WA and OR are able to get a handle on dealing with that stuff before it’s too late. It’s always a scramble in CA.

We are sending two Type Six engines your way on Wednesday, AA.....They both just got back last week from a 21 day deployment to NoCal.

Northwesterly cold front came through in the Wasatch. Currently 64*, smells like a campfire and the AQI is over 130 and we're 600 miles away.

not even born and that child has a horrible legacy (not that it's the child's fault but the two are linked)

Nearly totally unrelated but I was raking pine needles behind the house this afternoon and all of a sudden the air smelled so good. Then I realized it was the bathroom vent fan which daylights through the back wall and my wife was taking a shower.

Green here too for a while. Back to yellow but I’ll take it.

Changed the furnace filters after 4 weeks of almost constant fan running and they were brown. Should probably have been changed at 2 - 3 weeks. Got some new Merv-12’s coming.

    Cameron Peak Fire

This is the Larimer County Sheriff's Office with an emergency message. Cameron Peak fire officials have ordered mandatory evacuations for Red Feather and Crystal Lakes for residents and business occupants in the area due to immediate and imminent danger. This will also include the Manhattan Road down to Highway 14 and Shambhala Center areas. Evacuate the area immediately and as quickly as possible. Do not delay leaving to gather belongings or make efforts to protect your home or business. Evacuating immediately not only supports your safety, but also allows emergency crews better access to the area. Anyone needing assistance with sheltering, please go to Cache La Poudre Middle School, 3515 W CR54G. For updates, text the word LCEVAC to 888777 from your cell phone. We will communicate information to that key word as needed. Please do not call 9-1-1 unless you are in danger. Thank you.

I saw ^this somewhere else last week. Several firefighters don full turnout gear and climb 110 steps in honor of those lost on Sept. 11th.

On another note, so nice to see blue skies today in eastern Idaho after yesterday’s storms. Not sure how long it will last.

A young boy decided to share his favorite toy with the firefighters in case they were lonely. Baby Yoda is now making the rounds of all of our local fire camps.

There is a Facebook page following this Baby Yoda around the Pacific Northwest Fire camps. https://www.facebook.com/Baby-yoda-f...5042248019357/

I didn;t know that. That's a heart wrenching tradition. A thought for all the firefighters who lost their lives on 9/11 and the ones who've lost their lives on every other day. Hope there won't be any more killed fighting the fires out west.

It seems to me that 2020 has provided a resoundingly clear answer to that prayer: we aren't worth fighting for in any way, shape, or form.
