So I get a call from my son. He’s heading back to school down in ct from visiting his girlfriend in Syracuse.
Frantically - “ did gas go up in price”
    Yes
“ do I need to put super in this car ?”
    Yes.
“I may not be able to get back to school”
Ok, let’s work backwards kid where did you fuck up this time.
“ I just put $40 in tank and the needle isn’t even past half , I might not make it!!! I’m basically fucked !!”
    Where are you now?
    “ Utica “
I’m dying to suggest the brewery tour but I know that’s not right....
I do some quick calculations and realize I’ve got to reach out to a station along the way and feather his nest a bit. No cash , lost debit card, you fathers all know this call , or you will someday! Just keep driving I’ll look into it. I figure I can find a nice family owned gas station along the route who’d take my card over the phone so without to much trouble find a place in Albany right off 90.
    “ I’ve got kids too “
Says Mike from my new favorite place. So I break the news to the boy , call me when you pull-up to this address- look for the owner Mike we’ll get you all set up. Obviously relieved he then texted me this -
“ hey dad , look what I got you this weekend “

What's up with the mullet resurgence among college kids? My son texted me a few days ago and said he's growing a mullet.

They don’t remember the final dark days of the cold war so they all want pit vipers, mullets, mom jeans, and communism.

Be forewarned...hair metal is coming back next.

The conversation in the Italian place I got dinner from yesterday confirms that I'm upstate but probably still in that grey zone when using local cuisine as an indicator. I ordered a hero even though it says wedge on the menu and the owner (from the Bronx) thanked me for doing so while his employee was looking at me saying "so you want a wedge?" "Yup, I'll have a veal and pepper hero. Thanks" lol... He starts saying how timely this is because they're putting together a new menu and if it's going to change this is the right time and another customer chimes in and says Wedge and his son says Wedge. I pushed it and said no it's a Hero and he agreed but now it was 3 > 2 in favor of wedge over hero. All I had left was I guess this is one of those 287 is the divider things and everyone agreed and the other customer said "Yeah everything north of 287 is upstate." So, there ya go.

Where's the "hoagie" line in relation to the "hero" and "wedge" lines?

In North Jersey, they were hoagies, occasionally submarines. I don't think I've ever heard anyone actually call a sandwich like that a "hero" or a "wedge."

What about the Grinder? is that only a Boston area thing? I don't ever remember hearing that anywhere other than the coastal areas of New England.

It's an f'n sub. Not a hero. Not a grinder. Not even a hoagie or torpedo.

Yeah everyone knows what a sub is. It's not called Grinderway, Heroway or Hoagieway for a reason.

In CT, The grinder also refers to the type of bread/roll it is served on.

Regardless, I'm relative certain I've seen Grinder, Hoagie, Hero and Sub all on menus in Utica. Lot of inclusivity in the upstates.
