As a born and raised Western New Yorker I fully understand the absolute disdain those within range of WGR hold for the term upstate. Unfortunately, the reality is that you are either downstate or upstate. There are only subsets of upstate and downstate. Facts.

I do like when this thread drifts into full blown homerism...that culinary & beverage spread may qualify.

Pizza you can get anywhere. Thin crust. Deep dish. NY. Chicago artisanal etc.

Tomato pie is a treat. And a dish best served cold. Like jealousy.

I went to a nephews engagement party this weekend and brought my cooler with my personal supply of UC in it. One of my sisters was like “you brought your own beers to a party? What are you uncle jack now? “ so I guess I’ve officially become an upstate stereotype. She couldn’t remember what my uncles brand was though. Hams maybe?

If the party wasn’t serving Utica Club, you were not in the upstates.

Oh, sure. I mean, any party can be made to be “upstate”, with the proper libations and a bit of forethought…. but I thought we were discussing whether or not you were at an actual upstate party to begin with.

I mean fuck, we can upstate the fuck outta any downstate fucking party really easy. That’s a given. It’s one of our undeniably natural inbred abilities. And then, of course, we know to get the fuck out of there before those fucking people realize what the fuck actually happened to them.
