You're in the thick of this one, what with your Rt 6 boundary suggestion.

More than 4 years and 500 pages later, we're no closer to the truth. Its beginning to feel a bit like cold fusion.

But unlike that theory, we do know in fact that the Upstates exist.

No one is exactly clear on where though.

Yes, however, Herkimer begins with H. Richfield does not. To make sense it has to begin with H. If there's a place in the confluence the begins with H and ends with berg, that would work even better. Like Hinesburg. But that's in VT.

Some good lulz this morning, thanks!

And just here to say that there's a lot of blue tarp hillbillies in that swath of pink that represents the capital district. No way it should be that big. Schoharie valley is most definitely not capital district. But it should extend up to Saratoga Springs...

It's the price we pay to be able to call Western NY part of upstate.

We may be no closer to figuring out where it starts but we know for sure that the north country is upstate. I mean it’s upstate of most of upstate so how could it not be upstate?

Western NY is what Ontario & Quebec Canadians imagine life would be like if they were part of the US.

Onto another topic, years ago I saw a handwritten sign above a urinal in a restroom in an old VFW bar in the capital region: "please flush the urinal NYC needs the water!"
