Lotsa money in B-vile but I guess folks just don't eat out much. The only place 3 places that have been consistently around in the 22 years I've been hanging around that town are Tassone's, Sal's Pizza and the B-ville Diner. All give you lots of grub for little dinero. Had a close friend whose son was a chef. They opened a high end restaurant just a block off the lock. It was excellent. Lasted a year.

You know you’re upstate when the Ivy League school uses the dilapidated strip mall off the highway (with the abandoned Dicks and Ulta) for freshman orientation.

The last few days the water level has been right at the edge of the banks of the canal. After that episode on Friday they closed the canal to drain it down so boats could get under the bridges. When I went by the Seneca canal yesterday it was out of it's banks and the water in the northern half of Seneca and Cayuga lakes was brown with silt washed in the last few days.

I drove through the eye of the storm as it opened over Penn Yan/Dundee and it was awesome. It had been torrential downpours so hard that there were waterfalls off the roadside cliffs falling into the center of the road below Watkins Glen. Then after the rain ended the drainage ditches alongside the roads started overflowing and I drove through 3-5" deep water in a bunch of places, sometimes for a half mile or more. The next morning a bunch of the roads I went through were closed. The wall cloud on the inside of the eye as it opened was intense, 15 to maybe 20k feet high, black and grey and spinning at high speed. It was so fukn cool. I took a shitty vid laying on my back but this silly site won't let me post it.

Total of 918 meters long. They still use canals as a major form of transportation of goods.
