& Chesterfields (also twice toasted burly ftw) but even harder to find in these modern times. There was a small outfit near South Hill, VA doing world class RYO I'll see if I can find a link

    Nicotine is a helluva drug.

My lungs don’t miss them at all.
    mm hmm

Just sold a truck that retained the most pleasant hint of tobacco once in a while - not the humid keep all the windows up over the top one - just a little tap on the shoulder to say -
"hey wouldn't now be a great time to fire one?"

Filtered smokes were never as satisfying as straights.

A friend would smoke three lights while I barely finished a straight.

Oh well. Good times. And COPD and emphysema.

The good old days of smokers one-upping each other.

Speaking of one-upping. I was on the last train to the suburbs one night after a bender in NYC and had the privelege of listening to two dudes sit behind me discussing their incarceration resumes. It soon turned into a

"Otisville? ...that's nothing, after my last conviction they sent me to Fishkill"

and on and on. A third dude, who was obviously a friend, chimed in saying he had a cousin who went to Attica.

They all agreed that Rikers Island was the worst experience they ever had.

I recall the days of misspent youth comparing what smokes you got away with getting someone to sell you (for $1.50 a pack at the BP no less) in the lift line while the lights blazed the runs in halide yellow and the snow guns raged with another coat of frozen hope.

    I barely remember smoking planes.

When bars went non smoking I was thrilled.

Remember stripping all your clothes and taking a shower because you smelled like the ashtray of a mid 1980 k car?

Wouldn’t mind seeing list of items he was billed for during the incident. Think we’d have some solid data to work with.

Rikers is a downstate facility. No way he’s there. This guy is probably cooling his heels in a nice county jail someplace- if he’s not already checked into a hospital for a mental health evaluation that is. He probably has his own cell and a clean toilet. Has anybody heard from Fred? Ideally the perp would be a cousin about his same age.

Hey. Maybe the guy with the fake bomb is the GF’s brother as well as Fred’s HS buddy. So he needs to give him a job on the hill but he’s a fuck up so he drives the groomer down to Stewart’s to buy some Genny and then (after getting demoted to liftie) he can’t figure out how to reset the gate at the top shack so everybody is stuck standing around with a stopped lift. That could complicate things.

"These guys are good, Fred." "Yeah, but they're not from Herkimer."

It’d be like if Teej and Dex never left Mt Brighton.

    Now that’s something I’d watch.

My next door neighbors growing up were the people who owned the Monticello Bagel Bakery. I have eaten literally thousands of their bagels.

They had to be legit back in the day because they supplied the hotels that made up the borscht belt. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borscht_Belt

I still have my father grab a few dozen and mail them once there is a good freeze across the country. 3 day USPS was the go to. When he flies out each December and March, he stops at the bakery, where he's helped out over the years when it's really busy, and grabs a few dozen, stuffs all of the voids in his luggage and makes everyone on the plane wonder why it smells like bagels on the flight out. My 7 year old is now a bagel critique and knows the difference between some of the styles.
