I sure hope so. Covid - eek - stay well.

Looks like Friday is the day to hit Titus. Maybe we'll try West or Snow Ridge on the way up. The following week is a bit tougher with the kids out of school. Gotta see where the snow is right and head that way I guess and just deal with the lines. Is PA out of school that week also? Where in NY isn't? I know some districts just do a long weekend but have no idea where that would work out.

Wait, wut, ULLR is taking a break? Shit. It's not looking good for the Upstate after Wednesday, maybe Thursday, next week. Wet is looking likely. That changes things.

Been closed for years now. Owned by some guy who built a house and cuts the grass like he's prepping for uphill laps. Jury is still out as to whether that cat runs. T-bar looks FUBAR.

Mt Storm closed about 1982 or something like that when the owners drunk kid burned the lodge with him in it. Some of the family moved into the first floor and they've kept the grass cut and all of the trails ready to go. The t-bars are probably fubar but they look like you could just started them up. I tried to buy it about 25 years ago and they weren't having it. The place hasn't changed at all since. It's the most incredible natural refrigerator with nearly unlimited water, views of the Hudson River and across to the high peaks of the Catskills and best of all the neighbor is The Appalachian Trail so it's a pretty quiet place. #Dreams

Way back in 2006 or so I would road bike in and around Cooperstown a lot when I lived in Saratoga Springs. Because Cooperstown biking is superb. One beautiful Labor Day I decided to check out the old Otsego ski area that I found on NELSAP. Just a half mile up a dirt road, so, wtf. Same thing as above. Nice little house and barn, and a very nicely kept slope in the back yard. I thought, huh, what an awesome thing to have in the back.

Anybody mention Sterling Forest/ Tuxedo Ridge? That one is mystifying because they were actually doing a metric fucking ton of business every weekend. The landlord was pursuing a casino license and wouldn’t extend the lease or some shit?

My company actually shuts down for Lincoln’s Birthday (observed) so I went skiing. The hay bale bear is holding up well. I wonder if he gets up and wanders around town after dark.

First time I skied someplace that required a lift tick was at a ski area just south of Rochester with single rope tow. I've never seen it mentioned anywhere. Must be the most forgotten ski area in the state. I can't remember the name.

When I was a kid we were members and a few days every summer my whole family would go down and paint the chairs on that lift. As far as I remember we got a few free guest passes out of the deal and some good charma.

Ski magazine did an article about him. Linked in the above site.

Sounds a lot better and less competitive than a yoga retreat.

Got lucky on Google. HICKORY RIDGE!!! Now the Hickory Ridge subdivision in Perinton, NY. When I skied Powdemill the ski jump was still there and skiing was free. At the top of the tow at PM you'd exit left to ski and right to ski jump. Hickory was an open slope.

That's great. I grew up in Fairport (born in '71) and never knew about the history of that hill across from Wegmans. So cool!

Separately, the Powdermill rope tow is still there. No jump as far as I know though.

The current rope tow is across the street from the ski jump. My brother who is 15 years younger that I am recalls 2 rope tows when he skied it.

That makes sense… not much room to the right of the current lift to put a jump without ending up in the creek.

using a come-a-long and a telephone pole stump as your lift tensioning device is pretty upstates.
