Wasn’t upstate but I’m pretty sure he’s from there.
it’s funny you mentioned that cause I was driving down route 209 and went past one of those houses you see with just a huge pile of stuff in the driveway- not sure if it’s a legit antique dealer or just a hoarder. But there was a canoe there amongst all the shit with what looked like two cushy high back barstools installed over the seats. I considered turning around to snap a pic for you people but it was raining and I had some traffic on my ass so I just kept going. Made me smile though.

Does stuff fall off of trucks Upstates, or is that more of a downstate tristate thing?

Not sure if this is of interest to anybody but I was up in the Plattekill area Sunday morning. Hill is in fine shape. I saw on IG that they started working on the double’s new shack yesterday.

Then, on my way home, I went and checked out a Rondout Creek put-in that is on the paddling.com map. Not sure what the trails were originally cut for but the ruts were deep enough that I was afraid of getting my Impreza stuck.

So I found the Rondout and it was pretty placid on that section. There was enough visible movement that I felt better turning upstream to explore.

The Rondout was real shallow there. Narrow, lots of trees down in the water. Eventually I made it up to a spot where there was enough elevation change that the water was actually moving. I didn’t feel like getting out and dragging my boat up and over so I eddied out for a bit before heading back. Nice spot to think.

That was about it. I paddled back down past where I put in and explored downstream a bit but didn’t go very far. Loaded the boat back up and got out of the woods without getting stuck in the mud. I guess I wouldn’t recommend this section for a trip on its own but it looks like it’d be a nice put-in for a one way float down to High Falls if you prepositioned a car. Maybe that’s next.

Spent five or ten minutes checking out the lock and basin. There’s also the remains of a little dry dock there.

Got me some western upstate bikepacking planned for the very beginning of Oct. You may notice that day two has us finishing in Ellicottville to sample the beer. Looking forward to this.

    Right? Great TR, Brown!

And kudos to the grounds crew that took the time to lay some seriously nice stripes up and down Plattekill.

I don’t think so. If you mean Rt 30 then yeah, probably- spent a lot of time on 28 and 28a also and then took 209 down to 17 to head back downstate.

Thanks. Glad to do it. Wasn’t sure if I was getting too repetitive.

They keep it pretty for all the weddings they do. Hopefully somebody will go and hand cut the top of Freefall where it’s too steep to run the mowers

Ahh. I saw a small black something or other with boats on the roof go by but it was raining so hard I didn't get a good look.

Big loop for a day trip tomorrow with Syracuse and Utica scheduled. Tues - Thurs next week is a full lap with the Daks on Tuesday, the Lakeshore zone Wednesday and Buffalo Thursday finished up with a 7 hour cruise home.

For years and years I always imagined Coundersport to be a very cool place to live. But its fallen on hard times in the past 10-15 years. All the outdoor adventuring possibilities close by, right outside your front door, are still compelling.

I've been interested in exploring it too although never thought to live there. Years ago my pops was consulting (and commuting) for a company based there and I was intriguied by his stories. Street view is pretty bleak, but we'll see. I literally found 1 airbnb.

Nice trip Brownie. Were you on Rt30 section near Pepacton Res? Was planning to take run up there on my motorcycle sometime this weekend and just wondering how the pavement is as I haven't been up there for a few years.
