That move over law is a problem more often than not. I keep getting squeezed with no room to move left because of cars in that lane. The only solution at that point is to stand on the brakes or risk the ticket. It seems to me that instantly shedding 20 to 30mph is a bad idea...

Move over law is interesting. I'm totally down with the concept from a safety point of view. You bring up the interesting case where one can't move over. Shedding a lot of speed, including coming to a stop, does seem dangerous. Troopers getting run over during traffic stops also sucks. Probably need a follow on law to make it a class A felony to deny someone a merge (left). Or just stay off the Taconic.

Can't do that No, it holds for almost every major road in the state except for small sections of 3 laners where you at least have a better chance. I mean, I could just cruise in the left lane all the time lol. Speaking of the Taconic, I'd be lost without that road. I'm on it two or three times a week and other than an inordinate number of LEO's it's one of the best roads on the E Coast. Thankfully my POS dark grey minivan gets away with a lotta shit
