Upstate as fuck.
I was upstate a few years ago in such a place. Apparently the wings were good there. One of the regulars at this establishment, sitting at the bar by himself clutching a draft beer with nicotine stained fingers with nails that sort of curved around the glass, informed me rather matter-of-factly that someone was recently shot at the bar. It's was one of those moments that reminded me that I live in a different world."timberridge is terminally vapid" -- a fortune cookie in Yueyang

Nice report. I got a casual tour of the battlefield once from a buddy of mine from HS who went to West Point and did his full 20 years- including 2 tours as a history professor back at West Point. It was pretty interesting. There was a plaque indicating the spot where Benedict Arnold led the charge that more or less saved the revolution but didn’t mention him by name since he turned traitor later on.

It's a nice place. Pretty quiet, especially since the visitors center is down for renovation. I've biked through it now maybe a hundred times, because it's a nice ten mile one way loop you add in a national park that nobody visits. Nothing like Gettysburg, or the other Civil War parks (and Gettysburg is a cool road ride, too). The story is great. It's the place where the British advance that came out of Champlain was pinched and stopped, pretty much ending the war, but it took a while for the Brits to stiffen their lips. I'm always amazed at the method of warfare, when a bunch of guys on one side approached another bunch of guys on the other side, both sides in layers of rows, and they stopped, yards from each other, and blasted rifles at each other with the one shot, and reloaded. If they were alive or not seriously wounded. Brutal. But the scale was totally exceeded in the Civil War. From further away, at least.
They had a sort of re-enactment day I biked through once. I've been to Gettysburg for one of those, that's amazing and huge, this was nothing compared to that. I stumbled into the medical area, though, and that horrified me. Something out of a Cronenberg movie. I left quickly. Dental tools alone were awful.

The upstate is pretty this time of year fo sho. Anyone get the ms windows screensaver of the bear mountain bridge? That might be a decent southern border too, not sure if been adjudicated yet. I got some Schenectady county bonafides if that matters, family interest in an actual locomotive on the side of route 20 outside Duanesburg if it matters.
