The Official Argue About Where Upstate NY Is Thread

I once went with my family to visit my dads buddy Terry who was living up around upstate. Guy later got rich but that’s a different story.

Anyway, we go to Niagara Falls (that’s upstate, right?) and do the Niagara Falls thing.

There is some damn gift shop selling these fake ass Indian instruments that are certainly, in 1983 or whatever, not even made by Indians and certainly not traditional anyway. I have to have one so my dad’s Bud just buys it for me.

This thing was like a two sided drum like 3.5” tall but on a stick that went into the side and it had beads or something inside the drum. The skins were dried leather or at least looked like it and held taught with tied leather strands. The bottom of the stick had a hole with a leather strand loop that had two feathers on it. Picture a Tommyhawk bit with a drum and not a blade.

Now fast forward to ‘86 and I’m in 3rd or 4th and this thing has been parked in my closet since returning from the trip. But, now, My music class has an assignment to build an instrument at home. My teacher emphasizes that, above all, the instrument must work.

I wait until the last minute and instead of building an instrument, I present this gift shop treasure as my own work.

My music teacher is just blown away at the craftsmanship and holds it out as an example of what he was talking about. But, he never drills me about getting help or where or how it was built, just “good job!”

Then he puts it on the wall with some of the other standout instruments. I’m still not telling off shit.

Parent teacher conference comes and we actually go and talk to the music teacher briefly and he fucking points it out to my parents: “your son did a great job on this”

Now, I assume my entire 4th grade is about to be ruined by my parents murdering me but they’re just like “oh yeah, mmm hmmmm”

To this day I have no clue why they covered for me (that was NOT their style lol) but I hope it’s because they didn’t appreciate the passive aggressive taddle, because there is no goddamned way nobody noticed and just assumed I built this Thing in The garage.

    Fucker kept it.

Just Google Photoshop Fails, and there are a ton of results for stuff like that. Even the great Annie Leibovitz lets stuff go by that is awful, but, she's as bad as Trump when it comes to paying contractors, so I always enjoy seeing her get burned in public. (I used to do that for a living. But, I never ever failed.)

I'd ask the Wegman's virtual assistant but we've seen how useless she was on the whole canal thing.

You gotta go to real small towns to find a Pig these days. Or HHI.

It’s probably closer to 4 Piggly Wigglys to 1 Wegmans.

Or even 1 Pig and 2 Publix for one Wegmans. Or I’ll take a Heinen’s if you’re out of Wegmans.

Florida still rocks the pigglys. One near my father in law in lake worth. I recall it was a new store last I was there a few years back
